HEADLINE: ABC presenter Hale dies
ONE of the ABC's most familiar faces, Clive Hale, has died
from cancer aged 68.
The ABC's director of news and current affairs, John
Cameron, said last night Hale was "one of the most prominent
presenters" of the "1970s, 80s and early 90s".
"Clive Hale's trademarks were a distinctive voice, a genial
on-camera manner and a laid-back interviewing style which
served him well on For Love or Money," Mr Cameron said.
After almost 40 years with the national broadcaster, Hale
retired in 1997 from his role as the presenter of the
national late news bulletin. He also stepped down from
presenting For Love or Money.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Lapsley, and two children
from his first marriage. A memorial service will be held at
St James's Church in Sydney on Saturday at 11am. Amanda
