Broadway designer and longtime Dallas theatrical veteran Peter Wolf
died Monday night at Doctors Hospital. He was 86.
When the nationally ranked designer moved to Dallas in 1947, it was
front-page news. Mr. Wolf designed sets and costumes for more than 100
productions during 35 seasons with Dallas Summer Musicals. He also
designed 50 operas, including many at the Dallas Opera and its
predecessor, Dallas Civic Opera, as well as 14 Broadway shows.
Born June 11, 1918, Mr. Wolf graduated from the prestigious Yale Drama
School, where wife Caroline Mariah Wolf also attended. The couple was
married nearly 60 years.
Mr. Wolf continued to go to his office at Peter Wolf Concepts until he
fell three months ago. He and his staff also did commercial jobs,
including murals in the Adolphus hotel, a high-tech conversion of the
Bozell & Jacobs boardroom that was aimed to help the public relations
firm land the American Airlines account in 1980. They also completed
projects for Ross Perot.
The recent project Mr. Wolf was proudest to have worked work on,
according to his son and business associate, John Wolf, was the annual
Christmas show at Prestonwood Baptist Church. His final design was for
a show in the Olympic Stadium in Seoul, South Korea, last year.
In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Wolf is survived by children Anne
Miller, the Rev. James Wolf and Adrian Wolf - as well as nine
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at a location to be
determined. Forest Lawn Funeral Home at Turtle Creek, 3204 Fairmount,
is handling the arrangements.
