With both CONRAD BAIN (w/ BONAR BAIN) and DEAR ABBY (w/ the late ANN LANDERS) dying this week, the questioned is raised as to which other notables--other than Ann B. Davis (w/ non-acting sis Harriet)--living or dead, might happen to be halves of an identical-twin pair. (Or thirds of a -triplet team, for that matter.)

Well, I guess there's also--I believe this was their surname--the Rice brothers (one still living), of real estate infomercial fame.

I can't think of any others offhand, but I bet Mr. Ferguson* can.

* I was astonished that someone with your knowledge of the history of radio had never stumbled across the Dear Abby feature on the CBS Radio Network. Its 5-minute format featured a male, 50s-style announcer type introducing the show and then reading two or three selected letters to set up Abby's surely-rehearsed responses. It was a mid-day feature, though some CBS outlets no doubt aired it off-hours.

Thanks for remembering that Polish pair, Scott. And that of course reminds me of the current San Antonio Mayor what's-his-nombre and his San Anton-area Congressman identical twin brother, what's-the-other-nombre.

Not celebrities until they announced their decision, but there was this:

Marc And Eddy Verbessem, Deaf Belgian Twins, Euthanized After Starting To Turn Blind
By Eline Gordts
Huffington Post
January 15, 2013

Two Belgian brothers who were born deaf and were slowly going blind chose to end their lives the way they began them: together. The dual deaths of the identical twins last month marked the first reported double euthanasia of twins worldwide.

Marc and Eddy Verbessem, 45, were inseparable during their lives, the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws reports. Suffering from an incurable illness, the pair shared a room in their parental home before studying shoe repair and moving in together in a small apartment.

But when Marc and Eddy learned they were slowly going blind in addition to already being deaf, the twins feared losing all possible means of communicating with one another. "The thought of only being able to feel each other was unbearable," Het Laatste Nieuws writes, according to a HuffPost translation.

"Physically, their conditions were strongly deteriorating," Dr. David Dufour, who treated the brothers, explained to VTM. When the brothers learned their bid for euthanasia was accepted, "a weight fell off their shoulders," Dufour added. "They were happy and relieved that a date was set to end their suffering."

Belgium is one of only three countries that allow euthanasia for non-terminally ill patients, the others being Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Belgian law permits euthanasia when a patient declares the assisted suicide to be his or her own wish and doctors agree the patient is in unbearable physical or psychological pain.

The brothers Verbessem's application for assisted suicide was controversial, however, and the first hospital they approached declined their bid. "There is a law, but that is clearly open to various interpretations. If any blind or deaf are allowed to euthanize, we are far from home. I do not think this was what the legislation meant by 'unbearable suffering'," doctors at the first hospital said, according to The Telegraph.

Dirk Verbassem, the brothers' older sibling, told the Telegraph that Marc and Eddy's life had become insufferable. "Many will wonder why my brothers have opted for euthanasia because there are plenty of deaf and blind that have a 'normal' life," he said. "But my brothers trudged from one disease to another. They were really worn out."

De Volkskrant writes that Marc and Eddy were happy and calm on the day of their deaths. They were cremated and buried together in identical urns.

Assisted suicide remains a controversial topic worldwide, even in the case of terminally-ill patients. Last week, an Irish court denied a woman who was terminally-ill with multiple sclerosis the right to end her life.

"It would be impossible to ensure the aged, disabled, poor, unwanted, rejected, etc. would not avail of this option to avoid a sense being a burden on their families and society," Judge Nicholas Kearns told the Court, according to Reuters.

In the UK, 58-year-old Tony Nicklinson died in August 2012, one week after a court denied him the right to assisted suicide. Nicklinson suffered from locked-in syndrome and was paralyzed since 2005. The BBC reported he died from a pneumonia after refusing food.

Didn't know the Olsen twins weren't identical, nor that about either Hamilton or Kuschner, so thanks for both of those as well, but THIS one I don't even have to look up*:

In fact, that pair came into the world on Tuesday, January 8, 1935--a relatively easy date to remember precisely, simply because it was 120 years to the day of The Battle of New Orleans, fought by Andy Jackson after he led his men "down the Mighty Mississipp" [in that terrific lyric from the Johnny Horton hit] 'fore that fateful encounter with the British troops who just "kept a-comin'" on Sunday afternoon, January 8, 1815. Oh, and it was Jesse Garon, though like Horton, Faron IS a well-known classic country music name.

I didn't know about it, or had long since forgotten it, or something.
The feature was long gone by the time I got there. I suppose she did
it from her home, the way Lowell Thomas did his news show, and that
there was an in-studio announcer.

I used to see Captain Kangaroo around all the time, if that helps.

As for twins, there are lots and lots. Offhand I thought of the
Ashmores, the Olsens and the Halls before I thought to check Wikipedia:

Elisabeth Kbler-Ross was a triplet who died nine years ago, which

Presumably she in the 5th stage?

yikes: "Kubler-Ross nearly died as an infant. She was born in Zurich, the
third of triplets and weighing only two pounds. She also suffered under a
cruel father who once took her pet rabbit to a butcher and then forced
Elisabeth to join the family as it ate her pet for dinner. Her father
opposed her wish to be a doctor and demanded she become a secretary in his
business.
Instead she worked in a Zurich laboratory and then volunteered as a relief
worker. She visited a Nazi concentration camp in Poland after the end of the
war and saw, on the blighted barrack walls, hundreds of images of
butterflies, a symbol of rebirth amid mass deaths. The experience left a
profound impression.

Jose and Ozzie Canseco were the first ones who came to mind. Wikipedia's "Identical twins" category lists a number of others of note, though it's not clear to me from the available information that all of them are in fact identical twins (e.g., Mario Andretti's page doesn't specify that his twin is identical).

The '50s guy was Herb Shriner; Wil was one of those twins (the other is Kin
Shriner, who Wiki informs me is a soap-opera actor)....

>Buffy and Jody Davis (TV's "Family Affair").

Not, one assumes, identical (the same is true, less obviously, of Maurice and
Robin Gibb)....

Whatever happened to those two?...I found a bunch of episodes of that show
online last year (unfortunately, not including the one where the Righteous
Brothers guest-starred)....

Twins were used in the Star Trek original series episode "I, Mudd" to cut down
on the amount of photographic trickery needed to populate the place with dozens
of identical clones (the "Stella" series of androids, played by non-twin Kay
Elliot, were done the hard way with split screens and clever editing)....r

Linda Hamilton (of Terminator fame) has an identical twin sister, who
doesn't act. Although, in a scene in Terminator 2 where she was
dreaming and watching herself in a playground with a child and a
nuclear bomb goes off nearby, her twin sister played the other self,
and AFAIK that was the only time her sister ever appeared on-screen.
