He was listed as living as of last November, 2008, but is not listed now, in
Wikipedia.

Dpes anybody have any information about his death? I do not remember seeing
his name in alt.obituaries.

Picault, Pierre 27 February 1899 20 November 2008 (109) Served in the
French Army 83rd Artillery. Called up on 15 April 1918 as 2nd class
gunner. Excluded from French government lists. Lived in Bou, Loiret.
France's oldest man at the time of his death.

but listed him as the last French survivor.

Britain just lost its last "unofficial" WW I veteran,Netherwood "Ned"
Hughes,but still has two official ones living there and a third in
Australia.

The French have very tough rules. Anyone who does not serve at least
three months in combat is not a veteran.
