Driver in Crash That Injured Stephen King Dies
The Associated Press
FRYEBURG, Maine (AP) - The driver responsible for the
crash that
left Stephen King seriously injured last year has been
found dead
in his home.
Bryan Edwin Smith, 43, had not been seen or heard from
for about
three days when police were summoned to his mobile home
Friday evening, at the request of Smith's brother.
Authorities found Smith's body in his bed. An autopsy was
planned, but there was no sign of violence or foul play,
said Capt.
James Miclon, who found Smith.
"He was on a variety of medications for his health,"
Miclon said
Saturday. Miclon did not say what ailments Smith had.
King was walking along a road in North Lovell, where he
has a
summer home, when he was struck by Smith's van. The
author
sustained broken bones in his right leg and hip, broken
ribs, a
punctured lung and a skull laceration.
Smith pleaded guilty in January to a misdemeanor
driving-to-endanger charge in a plea deal that included a
six-month
suspended jail sentence and a driver's license
suspension.
State records showed Smith was convicted of driving to
endanger
and failing to stop upon the signal of a police officer
in 1998.
He was also convicted of failing to produce evidence of
insurance
in 1991, driving while intoxicated in 1989 and four
speeding
violations since 1988.

Does anyone think that King had him bumped off???
Maybe?

No, becasue there was reason for it. King was laid up with
injuries, but that didn't prevent him from writing; hell, maybe
he even learned to play the guitar better.
If King was involved, it was tangentially -- that is, a fan
killed him to get King's attention (see also: John Hinkley and
Jodie Foster).
There are some people you just can't hit. I don't know if
King is one of them, but take the case of one John Favara.
In 1980 Mr. Favara ran over and killed a 12 year old
neighbor in a car mishap. The mishap was investigated and
officially declared accidental. The 12 year old was a boy
name Frank. Frank Gotti that is. His father, John Gotti
was later to become the chief mafia kingpin in New York.
Need I say more? Okay, I will. Police got reports that
Favara was kidnapped, and chain-sawed to death, and
then placed in a car that was run through a demolition machine
and reduced to a one square foot block. Mrs. Favara, and
her children sold the house and moved from the Howard Beach
section on NY.
It certainly was. Foster and Vereen were friends before the incident, and
are still... the power of forgiveness at work.
