Guy Lebow
LEBOW--Guy. Sportscaster, newsman, musician, author, producer and TV pioneer
died peacefully August 14, 2008 in Manhattan. He was 92. Recognized for his
lifelong, passionate commitment to human dignity, he was deeply involved in
community educational and recreational programs for children and adults in
the five boroughs and Newark. Devoted husband of Barbara, father of Stephen,
grandfather of Adam. Services Sunday August 17 at 11:30am at "the Riverside",
76th St. and Amsterdam Ave.

IIRC this is the guy who replaced Jim Bouton as sportscaster on WABC's
Eyewitness News in New York. He was built like The Thing from the
Fantastic Four and was very old-school, which is what I guess WABC
wanted after Bouton. Lebow would read the scores and deliver heartfelt
commentaries about sports issues that absolutely no one else cared
about, and I guess that might be what endeared him to many people.

...sounds like WABC really wanted Bill Stern to come back from the dead
and had to settle for Lebow...
