As long as we're dredging up game show names, here are a few more to chew on:
Robert Q. Lewis
Henry Morgan
Arlene Dahl (seems like I recall seeing both her and Arlene Francis on "What's
My Line" at the same time)
Bennett Cerf
Dorothy Kilgallen (committed suicide many years ago)
Allen Ludden
Betty White (married to Ludden for many years)
John Charles Daly
John Cameron Swayze
Bud Collier
Hugh Downs (still around on "20/20", was the original host of "Concentration")
Art Fleming (original host of "Jeopardy")
Wink Dinkerson...uhhhh, Martindale <g>
Steve Allen
Jayne Meadows
Johnny Carson (host of "Who Do You Trust", before the "Tonight" show - and
yes, Ed McMahon was his 2nd banana on that show, too)
Garry Moore
Tom Poston
Louis Nye
Jane Withers (former child actress, rival of Shirley Temple)
Martha Raye
Selma Diamond
..all of these people did a lot of game show work, in addition to the things
they were supposedly more famous for. I can even recall seeing former big-time
Hollywood stars like Virginia Mayo and Rhonda Fleming doing turns on game
shows. Wotta country...

Don't think he ever used a pseudonym. His job was primarily selling
advertising but he did do some broadcasting. His name was Walter Vilberg
(known best to his friends as Walt). Be really neat if some Chicagoans
might remember him, but it was a long, long time ago.

Nothing to do with who's alive and who's not, but anytime I hear or read
mention of Rayburn, it brings to mind an instance from the original "Match
Game", hosted by Rayburn. This would have been around '64 or so, by my
recollection. While the later version of the show that Rayburn also hosted
featured teams composed entirely of celebrities, the original version had
teams composed of a celebrity "captain" and two members of the audience. The
captains on this particular day were the late Bill Cullen and Betty White. We
didn't actually see this happen, the show was on tape and they didn't
breoadcast the practical joke, but Cullen couldn't resist mentioning it on the
part that *did* get broadcast...seems that just prior to the beginning of the
show, before the cameras rolled, and Rayburn was introduced, Cullen, White and
the contestants agreed amongst themselves that, no matter what the question
was, they would all answer "pickle". Rayburn caught on to the joke, of course,
after the third time or so, but according to Cullen, he was dumbfounded at
first...

All three, although I don't think that Kilgallen was judged suicide; there was
some conspiracy theory about her death mentioned in a book I read and mostly
forgot but I think it was a combination of pills and alcohol but not necessary
intentional.

Any additional details?
If I recall there was some controversy about her death. Caused by a
combination of drugs and alcohol though. Possible suicide, but most likely
accidental overdose.

Kilgallen was the last person to interview Jack Ruby before he died so
she's usually included in with the JFK assassination body count.

Last seen on episodes of X-Files and Millenium a couple of seasons ago
(his X-Files episode is pretty good)
Joyce Bulifant...was she the perky-ditzy blonde? God I had
such a crush on her when I was 13....
Another one I have wondered about is Elaine Joyce. I think she was married to
Bobby Van and was widowed quite young.
Last 12/31, as we were doing our dead pool draft, someone
shouts, "Arlene Francis." Without missing a beat, my father
shouts, "dumber than a box of rocks." Elaborating, he recounted
having Arlene Francis as a partner when he appeared on the game show
Password, and said that by any measure, she was completely clueless.
That was 1961 or so.

That's one of the people I was trying to remember. I think she was one of the
semi-permanent panelists on "I've Got A Secret" as well. Which brings to mind
another name, also a "Secret" regular: Bess Myerson, former Miss America,
who's still very much alive, having been at the center of a New York City
goverment scandal a few years back (the details of which escape me at the
moment).
Elaine Joyce was just on a repeat of 90210 the other night on FX she played a
recurring part a couple years back of a realtor who attempted to sell the
Walsh's house when Mom & Dad moved to Hong Kong. I also recently saw her
playing a magician in a murder mystery show. I think it was a Diagnosis Murder
episode.

Although I used to watch "Match Game" in my youth (before it was reincarnated
as an execrable double-entendre-fest), it occurred to me much later that the
show is extremely detrimental to our societal culture. Consider that the
object is to arrive at the most predictable, middle-of-the-road, boring
response to every question, to ensure that all are maximally in step with one
another. The concept rewards craven conformism and punishes creativity,
individuality and originality.
Now that's un-American.

Bert Convy did die of a brain tumor, just like Bobby Van. He hosted
Tattletales, Super Password, Win Lose or Draw and The Third Degree. The latter
two he produced with Burt Reynolds as a Bert & Bert Production, in association

Isn't it amazing how far off topic we can get? <bg> Still Tattletales was
one of my secret vices, when I could see it. Although at this late date I
don't remember all that many pairs who did appear, I remember with particular
fondness John and Patty Duke Astin - long since split - and Dick and Dolly
Martin. I know that Richard Dawson appeared with some woman, although I only
remember this because the question was raised in some gossip column about his
reputed undying flame for former wife Diana Dors. Speaking of of Richard
Dawson [and wasting bandwidth - I apologize], if anyone watches AMC and
catches the occasional Hollywood Backstage, there is once which features
Diana Dors and "Dickie" Dawson. I was time warp time for me, and I actually
had trouble recognizing him between change of styles and change of billing.

Burt Convy was an occasional panelist on the 70s version of Match
Game. On one occasion where he guest-hosted MG for a week while MG
host Gene Rayburn guest-hosted Convy's show Tattletales (which
immediately followed it on CBS in most of the country). This allowed
each host to be a panelist on his own show.
In an interview with David Hammett a couple years ago, Gene stated
that Bert was criticized during his guest-hosting week on MG for not
moving around like Gene did. To quote from the article, "Bert's
response, according to Gene, was that he wasn't about to turn his back
to the camera."
Bert hosted a pilot for the MG revival in 1990, but he did not host
the revival when it reached the air. It has been reported, though not
confirmed, that Bert bowed out due to his illness. The MG revival,
hosted by Ross Shaffer, ran on ABC from July 16, 1990 to July 12,
1991. Bert Convy died on July 15, 1991.

That HOLLYWOOD BACKSTAGE show is chock-full of dead celebrities. Much fun.
I don't know where they kept the film all these years -- the series dates
from about 1964 -- but the color footage and soundtrack are in superb
condition.
As for TATTLETALES marriages, I recall that Dick Martin married a Playboy
centerfold from around 1970. Might have been Dolly.

: Actually, Tattletales has quite a number of non-deceased celebrities,
That should be NOW-deceased celebrities...
Bad spell-checker! No biscuit!
□ Actually, Tattletales has quite a number of now-deceased celebrities
...although not quite as many as the CBS-era reruns of "Password" and
"What's my line" or the syndicated version of "To tell the truth"...one
night I delighted in the fact that there were no less than three game show
hosts on "To tell the truth" (host Garry Moore and panelists Bill Cullen
and Larry Blyden) and one producer (costumed imposter Mark Goodson), all
now under the employ of the Great Game Show Producer in the Sky...
