Tom Cruise's mother, Mary Lee South, died in her sleep last week, People reported Monday. She was 80.
The magazine said Cruise's mother had been struggling with health issues in recent years. Cruise's publicist did not immediately respond for comment.
Cruise and his sisters Lee Ann DeVette, Cass Mapother and Marian Henry all attended a memorial service held at South's local Church of Scientology over the weekend, People said.
South was married to Cruise's father Thomas Cruise Mapother until 1974. Four years later she married Jack South, who became Cruise's stepfather. She encouraged her son's love of theater and the movies when he first told her he wanted to be an actor.
