I saw the thread about 'Poltergiest'. I have heard about the fates of some of those
cast members but one of the most well known is the deaths of many of the Hill Street
Blues cast. Though you should take the time to research your facts and present them so
others can share in them I do not have time as I live in Fort Lauderdale and we have
Bertha coming our way and things are a bit crazy with preparing and evacuating and
that sort of thing. So if anybody else who is not under a hurricaine watch or warning
who could finish this article in the manner I should have done. It was a large cast
and I think six of them have died from cancer, AIDS and other causes.
Dean.
And of those still living, their *careers* are all dead. Creepy.

Not to open up another can of worms (no unfortunate references intended),
but there were reports at the time that Enriquez died of AIDS and Martin
of liver cancer related to his alcoholism. I take it that these are
incorrect?
Lawrence Tierney, who replaced Robert Prosky as the desk sergeant toward
the end of the series' run, is also dead. (Tierney has the last line of
dialogue in the series: He answers a phone.)

A couple of regulars, Joe Spano and Barbara Bosson, are still
working in Bochco-Land, now appearing on "Murder One". (Not surprising
with Bosson, who is still Bochco's wife.) Peter Jurasik, who played the
snitch, now plays Londo on Babylon 5.
I don't know, but four or five deaths out of a cast of twenty or
thirty in fifteen years or so does not constitute a 'curse' to me.

Important Question: Is the guy who played Buck Naked still alive? He was a
running gag who turned up on at least two episodes. A bedraggled-looking guy
who would pick some opportune moment, then open his coat and display himself
(back to camera, of course) to as many of the officers as possible,
announcing gleefully: "I'm *Buck Naked*!" Can't think of the actor's name,
but in the end credits, the character's name was actually Buck Naked. One of
the funniest things I ever saw on TV.
Other than Alice Ghostley (Esmeralda), is any of the cast of Bewitched
left alive? I know that Agnes Morehead (Endora) died of a heart attack
in the mid-70s, Paul Lynde (Uncle somethingorother) died of a heart
attack in the early 80s, the woman who played Mrs. Kravitz is dead, and
one of the Darrens died not too long ago, as did Elizabeth Montgomery :(
(Samantha).
This question rises from a discussion I had with some friends not too
long ago of who would be cast in a Bewitched movie, since they've remade
the Addam's Family and the Brady Bunch, they're remaking I Dream of
Jeannie (sans Barbara Eden, who could probably still pull off a
convincing Jeannie!!!) and Lost in Space (I think) and probably a host
of others that we don't know about yet.
Thanks.

BEWITCHED was THE CONQUEROR of television. Liz Montgomery, Dick York and
Dick Sargent all died well before their time.
Although everyone remembers the two Darrins, there were also two Mrs.
Kravitzes. Alice Pearce (who'd become well-known for doing a series of
commercials) died in March 1966 (during the series' second season) and was
replaced by Sandra Gould.
THE CONQUEROR was filmed during a series of above-ground nuclear tests
upwind from the shooting location. There are even publicity photos of
John Wayne and his son looking on as the area is tested for
radioactivity. The area was declared safe, but the fallout from the tests
was in their food, their water, and the dust in the air they breathed. It
was almost as if THE CONQUEROR were a living laboratory for the study of
post-strike health problems.
Tons of radioactive dirt from the area was scraped up, trucked into Los
Angeles, and spread around so the studio shots would match the location
footage. Howard Hughes produced the movie, and he is said to have felt
responsible for the deaths and illnesses of so many of its cast members.
Thereafter, Hughes campaigned against nuclear testing and funded
opposition to it.
Bernard Fox who played the role of Dr. Bombay is alive and well.

Lawrence Tierney did not replace Robert Prosky. He functioned
occasionally on the show as "a" desk sergeant. More importantly, unless
something has happened to him very recently, he is not dead. He's had
good roles in films and television within the past year. (Check him out
in RESERVOIR DOGS, or in the title role of DILLINGER, from the 40s.)
Re Lawrence Tierney; He also played Elaine's father, writer Alton
Bennis (sp?), on an episode of Seinfeld from a few seasons ago. It
just reran in Los Angeles last evening.
In addition he is and was the brother of actor Scott Brady AKA Gerard
Tierney who died in 1985.

Had no idea that his son was one of those lost in that crash! How sad his
last few years were spent in sadness.
May he rest in peace now that he's reunited with his loved ones...

I saw his obituary in Variety, sometime in February or March. I was sorry
to see it; he was always one of my favorites. (I don't think I'm having
an out-of-body experience on this one.)
As for HILL STREET BLUES, Tierney's character first surfaced as a desk
sergeant at another precinct. He was a friend of Prosky's character, and
the two of them, as well as a number of other older sergeants, were once
shown at a rather contentious union meeting. Tierney's character
transferred to the Hill toward the end of the series' run, when Prosky's
character finally took retirement. I'm not sure if we're disagreeing on
this one. Tierney was shown working the day shift (when Furillo was
there) which I guess makes him _the_ desk sergeant for all practical
purposes, but Tierney's character was never important to the show, and his
role was not developed.

Damn! I was always confusing them, and now I know why!
Tierney is most certainly not dead, and has gotten quite a bit of work lately.
You failed to mention the hilarious SEINFELD episode where he played Elaine's
father....
Buck Naked (Philip Bury) of Buck Naked and the Bare Bottom Boys did
*not* die of HIV complications; he was murdered (stabbed, I believe)

I'm giving ground on this one, because I know better than to trust my
recollection past a certain point. I can't find any database that
mentions his death. I'm always happy when I'm wrong about something like
this (and I really do swear up and down that I thought I saw Tierney's
obituary in Variety). I know he did a lot of television work this season,
but his death in late winter would have precluded none of it, so it wasn't
a question of my forgetting it.
My apologies.

Actually Tabitha was played by twins, as was the practice at the time.

I remember his obituary in an issue of "Psychotronic" not so long

are you sure his work is from this season?

Small children are routinely played by twins on TV series because of
California's child labor laws.
Tabitha was played by successive sets of twins as she grew...but with the
last set,Erin Murphy did most of the work and got sole credit, and is the
person most people think of as "the girl who played Tabitha"(ignoring,of
course, the retread with Lisa Hartman as a grown Tabitha)...yes,she is
alive, still in her twenties, and well...I recall her being commemted on in
this newsgroup at the time of the most recent BEWITCHED death.
As far as I know, Lawrence Tierney is not dead, but his brother Scott
Brady is. Maybe that's where some of the confusion comes from.
It has happened -- rarely -- than a prepared obit has been released to the
press prematurely, either by accident or as a prank. (Two examples: Kirby
"Sky King" Grant and the actor Ted Ross.) I had a friend search the
Associated Press' electronic archives, and she found no trace of any obit
for Tierney. That surely makes me wonder, because I could have sworn I
saw his obit in Reuters' list of the daily dead last winter. If it was on
Reuters but not matched by AP, then it was surely an error (or a grievous
oversight by AP, but I'd bet on the former).
I can't answer for others, but I don't think I could be confusing this
alleged obit with Scott Brady's. Brady's death was more than a decade
ago.
I'm still giving ground on this one because I can't prove otherwise, and
one's memory can be faulty.

Tabitha (born 1/13/66) was actually played by three sets of twins. First,
she was "played" as a newborn by Heidi and Laura Gentry and then by Tamar
and Julie Young. As happens on TV, the baby got old fast over the summer
and, beginning in the fall of 1966, Tabitha was played by two-year-olds
Erin and Diane Murphy. A little later, Erin played the part all by
herself.

You know, Mark, I don't know the answer to that. When I get back to L.A.

Well, I'm glad to hear this. I loved Tierney's work in

I got to know David as a fellow member of Theatre West, a well-known

particularly fond of being known simply as "Larry Tate." Check him out

he was also married to my friend.
: >Buck Naked (Philip Bury) of Buck Naked and the Bare Bottom Boys did
Phillip was shot in the Panhandle (part of Golden Gate Park) by a man who
walked his dog and carried a gun. After he was killed, the papers here
dropped the case and I never found out what happened to his murderer.
I was dissed by Adam Rich...............................CRASH.
Who's Adam Rich? Is that Richie Rich's Brother?..................
As I recall, the newspaper stated that Buck (or was it his dog?) was
"harassing" the pigeons in the park and was shot to death by an irate (and
rathers insane) birdwatcher.
The story also made it into News of the Weird a couple of years ago.

Not sure. Might be confused.

As someone (or several someones) pointed out here recently, Rich's obit
was a hoax. He's not dead.
