Former Matthew Good Band Bassist Dies
02/02/10 12:46pm
by Kate Harper (CHARTattack)

Geoff Lloyd, former bassist for the Matthew Good Band, has passed away.

Matthew Good took to his website on Sunday (Jan. 31) to say he was "in a
state of shock" about Lloyd's death.

"I remember a lot of things when I think of Geoff," Good wrote. "Like
me, he suffered from extreme mood swings and depression, something that
he struggled with throughout his life. But, to be honest, most of the
time I just remember how funny and utterly selfless he was.

"There are a million stories, a million memories, and threading them
together thousands of miles travelled. I wouldn't change any of it for
the world, and am honoured to have not only played with him, but to have
had him be a part of my life."

It is not known why or how Lloyd died, but a Facebook event page says he
was "fighting his inner demons for a number of years, and they finally
got the better of him."

In another post on Monday, Good wrote about Lloyd's laughter and
dynamics within the Matthew Good Band. He also stated the last time he
saw the bassist was when he was recording his 2007 Hospital Music solo
album.

"I would look to my left and there would be an explosion," he wrote of
his time in the Matthew Good Band with Lloyd. "He projected the sort of
energy that i always imagined a natural bomb would - vibrant, pure,
utterly oblivious to the perceptions of others and what they deemed
cool. I struggled to match him, I fought to keep up some nights."

A fundraiser will be held Sunday (Feb. 7) at Vancouver's Asbalt to help
Lloyd's widow, Lisafurr Lloyd, whose mother also passed away two weeks
ago. Mr. Plow, The East Vamps, Free Cigarettes For Drunk Minors and
Death Sentence will play the gig.

Lloyd joined the Matthew Good Band in 1995. He left the group and was
replaced by Rich Priske in 1999. Lloyd performed on the Matthew Good
Band's 1995 Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts debut album and their 1997
Underdogs breakout disc.

Prior to his passing, Lloyd was the frontman for Vancouver's Slipjacks.
He and Lisafurr Lloyd also helped reopen Vancouver venue The Cobalt in
2006.
