My favorite was Darlene Gillespie. She hasn't had an easy time of it - has
made some bad decisions in life. AUGUST 22, 1997 Meanwhile former
Mouseketeer Darlene -- 56-year-old Darlene Gillespie -- was sentenced by a
Ventura Superior Court judge to three years probation for petty theft.

Ex-Mouseketeer
Darlene arrested
LOS ANGELES (AP) - An original member of the Mickey Mouse Club and her
fiance have been arrested for allegedly obstructing justice and lying about
an alleged securities fraud scheme.
Former Mouseketeer Darlene Gillespie, 56, and Jerry J. Fraschilla, 60, were
indicted by a federal grand jury last week in Los Angeles on 26 counts of
conspiracy, securities fraud, mail fraud, obstruction of justice and
perjury.
The pair was accused of lying under oath in depositions taken during a
Securities and Exchange Commission investigation. They were arrested
Wednesday by the FBI. Arraignment was set for Monday in U.S. District Court.
Fraschilla's bail was set at $50,000. Gillespie, who performed in the
original cast of television's ``The Mickey Mouse Club'' that aired from 1954
to 1959, was released on her own recognizance. She was ordered to submit her
passport to the court clerk.
The allegations stemmed from an SEC lawsuit filed in 1994 against the pair
for allegedly producing fraudulent documents, including materials supposedly
prepared by ``Michael Andrews,'' a man authorities later discovered didn't
exist.
The SEC's investigation started in March 1993 when the two were suspected of
operating a scheme known as ``free riding'' in which they tried to make
money in stock transactions without paying for the securities.
The grand jury indictment, unsealed Wednesday, claims Fraschilla of
Camarillo and Gillespie of Oxnard obstructed justice by producing fraudulent
letters from associates and a stock broker claiming the defendants had the
means to pay for the stocks.
Fraschilla and Gillespie also were accused of perjuring themselves by lying
under oath about ``Andrews.'' Andrews originally was named in the 1994
lawsuit, but the indictment contends Fraschilla and Gillespie made him up.
The pair allegedly paid for the ``free riding'' shares with checks on closed
accounts and overdrawn bank accounts, according to the indictment.
In August, Fraschilla and Gillespie, who are engaged, were sentenced on
petty theft convictions for stealing a food processor and clothing from the
Macy's department store in Ventura.
They were placed on three years probation. The judge also sentenced
Fraschilla to 15 days in jail, but stayed the order so Fraschilla's attorney
could appeal.

In fact, they are both buried at the same cemetery, Forest Lawn
Hollywood Hills, as is Walt Disney's brother Roy and other
Disney-related individuals. Interesting, since Disney Studios itself
is visible from within Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
(Walt himself, though, is buried at the nearby Forest Lawn Glendale,
and "Ducky" Nash (the voice of Donald Duck) is buried at San Fernando
Mission Cemetery.

Marty, didn't Darlene later draw hard time on a related charge? I
think I remember something about the judge being angry that Darlene was
trying to blame other people for what she herself had done.

I've never heard anything about this at all. What a shame.
Apparently she did. Haven't found any info out about an appeal. I just did a
search on Darlene and here is what I found:
http://members.tripod.com/~former_child_star/index-2.html
MARCH 1999
... DARLENE GILLESPIE (The Mickey Mouse Club) was sentenced March 11, 1999,
to two years in federal prison on charges that said the onetime Mouseketeer
had become a racketeer. She is due to begin serving her sentence in July.
GILLESPIE, 56, proclaimed her innocence and said she plans to appeal. She
also revealed that she recently married onetime codefendant JERRY
FRASCHILLA, currently serving an 18-month term in the pen. In the early
1990s, GILLESPIE and FRASCHILLA were busted for shoplifting a Cuisinart and
some shirts at a Macy's department store in Ventura, California. (POSTED:
3/15/99)
She had the most beautiful singing voice. Geeze, nearly 60 and ending up in
jail. Then marrying the idiot. Darlene was born April 8, 1941, in Montreal,
Canada.
Here is the info on Karen Pendleton:
In 1983, Karen was involved in an automobile accident, in which her spine
was irreparably injured. This accident left her paralyzed from the waist
down. After the accident, Karen went back to college and got a Bachelor's
Degree in psychology. She is working full time for a battered-woman's
shelter. Karen is also on the board of the California Association of the
Physically Handicapped.
Many years ago TV Guide had an article on some of the Mouseketeers - one of
them was Karen and that was where I read about her becoming paralyzed. It
said she and her husband were having an argument and she jumped out of the
car.

She's likely to die in the near future; Annette Funicello suffers from some
kind of extremely debilitating disease. I don't remember if it's muscular
dystrophy, Lou Gherig's disease, or something else. She's permanently confined
to a wheelchair, and has difficulty speaking.

IIRC, she has MS which has progressed much more quickly than it normally
would for reasons not understood. Also, I believe it has affected her
eyesight rather badly.

No, he isn't. You're probably confusing him with his son, also named Roy.

they themselves violate privacy rights wholesale. They regulate
virtually everything that peaceful people can do behind closed doors,

demand the privacy rights that they routinely deny to ordinary people.

Cremated yes, but not buried; his ashes are in an urn in a wall at Forest Lawn,
Glendale. The spot is quite easy to find, actually.
You can find directions to (and photos of) Walt's grave on my site at
