Dye was athletic director at Syracuse from 1973-1978. He also spent 14
years as an admissions administrator before moving into the athletics
office, including his final four as dean of admissions.
Born in Forestville, N.Y., Dye was a 1942 graduate of Syracuse, where he
played as a defensive halfback and offensive end. He played for the
NFL's Washington Redskins from 1944-1946 and later scouted for them.
Staying in football after his playing days, Dye became head coach at
Clarkson College in Potsdam. He returned to Syracuse in 1949 as an
assistant and freshman coach under Ben Schwartzwalder, where he stayed
until he took an administrative job in 1959.
His survivors include his wife, a daughter, two sons and a sister.

Personal note: Although I never met Mr. Dye, his name lingers in the
memories of myself and thousands of others who attended Syracuse in the
'70s, for it was his signature that graced our acceptance letters. Rest
in peace, fellow Orangeman.
