Chief Executive Founded Contracting Firm

A. Carl von Sternberg, 80, whose Allen Corp. of America provides
professional services to government-contracting firms and the federal
government, died February 18, 2009, at his corporate headquarters in Fairfax
City, Virginia, after a heart attack. He was the founder and chief executive
of the company.

Mr. von Sternberg moved to Alexandria in 1969 and started Essex Corp., a
behavioral science and training organization. He founded two other companies
before starting Allen Corp. in 2000. The company specializes in
technology-related fields, including logistics, training and education,
digital communications and security.

Adolph Carl von Sternberg was a native of Keene, New York, and grew up in
Madison, Connecticut. He was a 1951 industrial administration graduate of
Yale University. Before founding his first company, he worked in management
for U.S. Rubber Co., Boeing and Matrix Corp. At Matrix, his involvement with
a training program for astronauts focused his attention on personnel
training.

His marriages to Jane von Sternberg, Louise von Sternberg and Barbara Reves
ended in divorce.

Two children from his second marriage died, Paul von Sternberg in 1989 and
Millicent von Sternberg in 2001.

He was a member of the Yale Club of Washington, D.C., the Old Dominion Boat
Club in Alexandria, Virginia, and was a strong supporter of the Campagna
Center in Alexandria and the Inova Alexandria Hospital Foundation.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Janet von Sternberg of Alexandria; a
son from his first marriage, Kurt von Sternberg of Omaha, Nebraska; a son
from his second marriage, Mark von Sternberg of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania;
and two daughters from his third marriage, Leanna von Sternberg and Allena
von Sternberg, both of Arlington County, Virginia; a sister; four
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
