I went to college with a woman named Gina Mastrogiacomo who later became
an actress and appeared in such films as "GoodFellas", Spike Lee's
"Jungle Fever" and "Naked Gun 2 1/2". She also appeared in episodes of
E.R., The X-Files and Seinfeld. The Internet Movie Database states that
she died in April of this year of a heart inflammation, but I can't find
any obituaries about her anywhere and now I'm wondering if this
information is accurate. Does anyone know?

Thanks.

Her obituary was listed in the most recent issue of "Psychotronic Video," but
they may have just been repeating the information from the IMDB.

Where have you checked?

And, SAG is a possibility, of course.

I have a friend whose job gives him access to thousands of newspapers around
the world via computer and he couldn't find any mention of her passing. I
also wonder about the accuracy of the Internet Movie Database's listing of
her death because it gives no specific date other than April and then gives
you access to other deaths for the month of April where there is an Italian
actor named "Giacomo" (compared to Gina's last name "Mastrogiacomo") listed
for that same month. I thought it might be a mistake for that "name
similarity" reason.

I did see her death mentioned on the Psychotronic website but also thought it
might have been picked up from the IMDB mention. Thanks for your help.

When the Kim Walker death rumor surfaced,I confirmed it
by calling SAG after failing to shame any West Coasters
into doing it.(Still no confirmation of the claim that
she died of a brain tumor...suspicious coincidence for
her given her best-known role).

You might as well call them about your college friend.

There is contact info listed for her at www.stararchive.com. It was updated
in late April and they do not seem to keep any info for any deceased people.

There are no listings for that name at the Social Security Death Index on
Ancestry.com.

John,

Perhaps you'd be so kind as to let the person who posted the original
query know the source of your information - either on this NG or
(should the poster choose to become less anonymous) privately.

Not to do so would be, in my opinion, a rather cruel and unnecessary
self-indulgence ... or just plain lazy.

Yes, she died in 2001. I'm her second cousin. I didn't attend her funeral, but I was informed about her passing by my relatives, some of whom attended her service.

One thing I've wondered about was: What happened to Hill's girlfriends Janice (real name: Linda Coppociano) and Sandy (real name: Robin Cooperman)?
