Fritz-Olof Thunberg (21 May 1925 – 24 February 2020) was a Swedish actor, voice actor and director, perhaps best known as the voice of the cartoon character Bamse.
Life and career
Thunberg was born Fritz-Olof Thunberg in Västerås, where he formed a theatre club called Scenklubben that also included Lars Ekborg and the poet Bo Setterlind. He studied at Calle Flygare's drama school in Stockholm and then from 1950 to 1952 at Dramatens elevskola; between the two, in the late 1940s, he performed in public parks.
After finishing drama school, Thunberg joined the Östgötateatern regional theatre, where he directed in addition to acting, then became a freelance actor. In the 1950s he became known for his work on the radio programme Mannen i svart ("The Man in Black"), where he presented all kinds of stories of horror and the supernatural in his deep voice, accompanied by a variety of sound effects. In 1963, he had a supporting role in Ingmar Bergman's drama Winter Light as the church organist Fredrik.
Thunberg has appeared in a variety of films, often in a supporting role as a confident charmer, and is the voice of both Bamse and Agaton Sax in children's films and recordings. He also voiced Shere Khan in the Swedish-dubbed versions of both the 1967 Disney The Jungle Book and its 2003 sequel, The Jungle Book 2.
In 2006, Thunberg was a host of Sommar on Sveriges Radio P1.
Thunberg also directed for television.[
Personal life
Thunberg was previously married to Ingrid Johansson. From his later cohabitation with actress Mona Andersson [sv] (whom he got to know in connection with a radio theater play.), he was the father of actor Svante Thunberg and father-in-law of opera singer Malena Ernman from whom his granddaughter is the climate activist Greta Thunberg.[
In 1959, Thunberg got engaged to actress Lena Granhagen, whom he had met while directing a play in which she acted in at Intiman. They lived together into the 1960s and they acted together as a couple in the television series Villervalle i Söderhavet in 1963.
Thunberg died on 24 February 2020.

– Jag minns honom med glädje. Det var en underbar kille, säger Jan Malmsjö till TT.
Skådespelaren Jan Malmsjö lärde känna Olof Thunberg på Dramatens elevskola, som de båda kom in på samma år 1950. Han är djupt tagen av beskedet om Olof Thunbergs bortgång och beskriver honom som en duktig skådespelare och imitatör.
– Han kunde vara så rolig, han hade en sådan speciell accent i sitt tal. Under tiden på Dramaten så satt vi ofta på Berns fram till dess att de ställde stolarna på borden. Vi hängde verkligen ihop, säger Jan Malmsjö.
Växte upp i Västerås
Under sin karriär var Olof Thunberg flitigt anlitad för sin mångsidighet. Som scenskådespelare uppträdde han på de flesta av Stockholms kända teaterscener och som röstskådespelare gav han liv åt tecknade figurer som Bamse och Shere Khan i ”Djungelboken”.

Greta's younger sister, Beata Ernman, also posted a series of pictures of the veteran actor on Instagram with a caption that read, "Rest In Peace Grandpa."
Thunberg was a well-known face on stage in Sweden, starting his career soon after the end of World War II. He went on to act in several films and TV shows, and even direct some TV movies later on in his career.
While he gave some spectacular performances during the course of his career, it was his portrayal of organist Fredrik in the 1963 classic "Winter Light" that made him known in the international circuit.
Thunberg was also the voice behind the tiger Shere Khan in the Swedish version of Disney's "The Jungle Book" and its sequel.
Meeting Malala
Greta also spent some time with Malala Yousafzai on Tuesday at the University of Oxford in the UK, where the Pakistani Nobel laureate is studying.
Greta is set to attend a school strike in the country on Friday, but took some time to visit her "role model" Malala.

I hate to ask, but since Greta is no shrinking violet, just when is she going to address a crowd of her middle-class peers and tell them that they will be just as much to blame as any corporation for the ills of the future, if they don't cut their First World lifestyles by at least half? Permanently?
Obviously, she'd have to alter her demeanor for that particular speech - but it clearly very much needs to be said. After all, shopping is typically bad for the environment, because even second-hand goods have to be transported.
It's no more radical than pointing out that the only diet that will KEEP the weight off is the diet that you adhere to for the rest of your life.

When it comes to Time Magazine's 2019 Person of the Year, I'm not crazy about her either. On the surface, one has to admire her youth-driven passion, but enough with yelling at people already.
When i peruse Wikioedis's "Deaths in 2020" page, I sometimes will encounter something on the order of "Swedish actor," my first reaction is that if he didn't work for Ingmar Bergman, he's not getting on "Showbituaries." Hence, the "non-Bergman" header.
Since he was connected to this flavour-of-the-moment instant-celeb, I decided to post about him.
