Clifton Fisher, Mutual exec, 73;
Gail Fisher, Emmy-winning actress

Memorial services will be held for Clifton M. Fisher, 73, and his sister, Gail
Fisher, 65, both residents of Los Angeles, Calif. who had previously lived in
New Jersey.
Mr. Fisher died Dec. 2 in the Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital, Los Angeles,
and Miss Fisher died Dec. 2 in the Brockman Medical Center, Los Angeles.
Mr. Fisher was the general manager for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. and had
worked for Mutual Life Insurance Co. in New Jersey, Nebraska and California
before retiring 14 years ago.
Miss Fisher was the first black woman to appear in a national television
commercial with dialogue in 1961. She appeared in the television shows "Love
American Style," "The Doctors," "My Three Sons," and "Mannix," for which she
won an Emmy for best supporting actress. Her on- and off-Broadway appearances
include “A Raisin In The Sun” and “Simply Heaven.”
She also won two Golden Globe Awards and had written song lyrics for artists
such as Nancy Wilson and the late Julian Adderley.
Mr. Fisher was active with the Parks and Recreation Commission in Inglewood,
Calif, served as an honorary mayor of Ladera Heights and secretary of the
Southbay Exchange Club.
Mr. Fisher served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Born in Norfolk, Va., Mr. Fisher lived in Orange before moving to California
more than 24 years ago.
Miss Fisher was born in Orange, and moved to California several years ago.
Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons, Craig and Kim; daughters,
Mrs. Diane Beasley and Mrs. Jalilah A. Muhammad; a brother, Herbert; a sister,
Mrs. Ona Gaither; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Miss Fisher is survived by daughters, Mrs. Samara Maxe and Mrs. Jole Baerga; a
brother, Herbert; a sister, Mrs. Ona Gaither, and five grandchildren.
