Adrian Recinos Jr. Falls Church Pediatrician
Adrian Recinos Jr., 88, a Falls Church [Virginia] pediatrician in
private practice for nearly 40 years, died May 21 [2008] at Washington
Hospital Center. He had complications during abdominal aneurysm
surgery.
Dr. Recinos was a founding member of the Fairfax [Virginia] Hospital
pediatrics department and was departmental chairman in the early
1960s. He also was on the staff of Fairfax and Arlington [Virginia]
hospitals until he retired in 1989.
Dr. Recinos, whose clientele included many Spanish-speaking families,
was born in Guatemala City [Guatemala]. He settled in the District
[Washington DC] in the 1920s when he became a diplomat at the
Guatemalan embassy. His father later was Guatemala's ambassador to the
United States.
Dr. Recinos was a 1938 graduate of Western High School, a 1942
graduate of Harvard University and a 1945 graduate of Columbia
University medical school. He was chief resident physician at
Children's National Medical Center in 1949.
He became a U.S. citizen in 1950 and was a Navy Medical Corps veteran
of the Korean War.
He was a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and a fellow of
the American Academy of Pediatrics.
He was a Meals on Wheels volunteer in Vienna [Virginia], his town of
residence.
His marriage to Marjorie Grim Recinos ended in divorce. A son from
that marriage, William Recinos, died in 1985.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sally Taylor Recinos of
Vienna; a son from his first marriage, Adrian Recinos III of
Galveston, Texas; a son from his second marriage, Andrew Recinos of
Portland, Oregon; two stepsons, Scott Recinos of Ashburn [Virginia]
and Matthew Recinos of Orlando [FLorida]; two sisters; and 10
grandchildren.
