CNN Headline News anchor Lynne Russell left the network just before
midnight Friday (May 18). Russell, 54 (!), had been with Headline News
since it went on air (as CNN 2) in 1982.

Boiling it down, Russell said she's had enough of the grind, and wants
to get on with her life. Her s.o., Thomas Beck, recently underwent
surgery for colon cancer and is expected to recover. Russell says
she's going to take it easy for a while and write a book.

All of you people who were looking forward to a Lynne Russell-Andrea
Thompson teamup are going to be disappointed.

You might ask Jerry Doyle if it's worth it.

I suspect Ms. Russell will make a surprise re-appearance early
in Ms. Thompson's career, and there will be an on-air screaming match
followed by a hair-pulling catfight.

Oh, sorry, that's the WWF script, not CNN,

I would have to think she has probably done more news broadcasts than any other
TV newscaster in history. If she was on air fifteen hours a week (an rough
estimate), that would be thirty broadcasts per week or roughly 1500 per year.
Over the course of eighteen years we're talking 27,000 broadcasts.
By comparison, Dan Rather has been doing the CBS Evening News for twenty years
now. Doing five broadcasts a week, or roughly 250 per year; over 20 years that
is about 5,000 broadcasts. Kind of pales in comparison.
