Lady Forteviot, a direct descendant of King James II and Arabella
Churchill, sister of the 1st Duke of Marlborough, was born Lady
Elisabeth Jeronima Waldegrave, 4 April, 1936, third daughter of the
12th Earl Waldegrave, KG, GCVO, by his wife Mary Hermione Grenfell.
Her mother's brother, Reggie Grenfell, was the husband of the
comedienne Joyce Grenfell.
Her siblings included the 13th Earl Waldegrave; the former
Conservative Government Minister William Waldegrave [now Lord
Waldegrave of North Hill]; and Lady Susan Hussey, Lady-in-Waiting to
the Queen for 43 years, and godmother of Prince William of Wales.
She married in 1963, the Hon John James Evelyn Dewar, son and heir of
the 3rd Baron Forteviot, Chairman of John Dewar & Sons 1954-76, of
Dupplin Castle, Perthshire.
Her husband, who succeeded to the peerage, 25 March, 1993, was with
John Dewar & Co from 1959 to 1998, & had a spell as ADC to the Gov
General of New Zealand.
Lady Forteviot is survived by her husband, one son, Alexander; and
three daughters, Mary-Emma [married to the heir to Baroness Strange];
Miranda and Henrietta.
A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St John's Episcopal Church,
Princes Street, Perth, 25 February, 2003.
