CORPUS CHRISTI, (AP)-Texas A singer and songwriter who co-owned a
Corpus Christi music company has died.
Sam Neely was 58.
Corpus Christi police yesterday responded to a report of an unconscious
man who'd been mowing his lawn.
The cause of death wasn't immediately released.
Neely co-owned Taliesyn (tal-ee-ES'-en) Music, which on its Web site
responded to the singer's death by saying: "He will be dearly missed by
his family, friends and fans."
The Web site says Neely, who was born in Cuero, recorded six albums.
Neely's songs included "Rosalie," "You Can Have Her" and "Loving You
Just Crossed My Mind," -- his first Top 20 hit.
He's honored with a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in
Corpus Christi.
Sad to hear. "You Can Have Her" is one of my favorite songs. Better
versions by both Roy Hamilton and Waylon Jennings but Sam's was pretty
good too with it's informal talking intro.
