David Doyle, a popular character actor who was rcognized nationwide for
his long-running role as John Bosley on "Charlie's Angels," has died. He
was 67.
Doyle, who lived in Los Angeles, died Wednesday night of a heart attack,
his agent, Ginger Lawrence, said Friday.
In recent years, Doyle had been the voice of the grandfather in the
Nickelodeon cartoon series "Rug Rats." He had recently completed episodes
of the network television series "Lois and Clark" and "Sunset Beach."
But the versatile actor was perhaps best remembered as Bosley, assistant
to the mysterious "Charlie," who relayed messages from the boss to three
beautiful "angel" detectives. Although the detectives changed, Doyle
remained with the hit series for its entire run from 1976 to 1981.
He had made his motion picture debut in 1963 in "Act One." Other credits
were "Love or Money," "No Way to Treat a Lady," "Paper Lion," "Vigilante
Force," Capricorn One," "Coogan's Bluff" and "The Comeback."

Bosley's boss,a man named Woodville).

I always thought, though I didn't keep watching the series long,
that it would be cute some day to have Bosley out,and a character
Doyle,played by Tom Bosley,substituting...

I want to thank Paul for posting this, but I wanted to make one
thing clear; David Doyle should not be confused with *Tom Bosley*,
another actor from the `70s. Tom Bosley is still alive.

As I noted in my followup,I would have enjoyed seeing Tom Bosley
play a character named Doyle on C's A.

According to a TV Guide interview in the late 70's, the character name was
a play on Doyle's pet peeve of being mistaken for the then-Happy Days
star.
