I'm sorry. I forgot "when." A shaky source I just looked up says 1986.
The "how," in case the previous message missed the server, was lung cancer.

I don't recall the year of his death, but it seems to me it was within
the last 5 or 6 years.
I first heard the news from a shaky source, so I called Schlatter
Productions in Hollywood ("Real People"'s producers) for the story.
The woman I talked to did not know the details; she said that her
office only found out months after the fact -- they attempted to mail
Skip a residual check, and it came back to the office marked "Return
to Sender". Next, they tracked down his mom, and she told them Skip
had gone to meet the Real Person in the Sky.
That's all I know.

Yes. Lung cancer.

I've been wondering that for awhile myself. I heard awhile back that
he died but never heard any details...hope someone has the scoop!
Not that my memory is entirely trustworthy, but I'm pretty sure I wrote
his obit myself during my radio days, and they ended in 1990. Lacking
anything better, I put down what I remembered writing. I still haven't
found a decent source to check, though, so someone with access to Nexus
will have to do it.
If you're right, though, then I couldn't have been wronger.

I was wondering the same thing. Anybody know???
Weird...I heard it was a massive heart attack. He had just released an
album and was promoting it in commercials on the Nashville Network. I
remember half of the album was him doing comedy, and half was Skip
crooning his interpretations of country favorites (!). I know...I
know. Don't get me started.
Don't you mean "Real 'Weird' People" ...

Someone else posted conflicting information -- namely, that Skip died in
1992 of a heart attack. The other person (I forget who it was) was so
specific and knowledgeable that I think I must have been wrong.
All these guys start running together after a while, y'know?
It's odd this came up on here at this particualr time, cause I just
thinking about that show (Real People) and how much I liked Skip and was
wondering how he was doing (cause I forgot he died) and then I came apon a
note on here asking about his demise and I was sad all over again like he
just died. He died too young. Rest In Peace Skip...
