by Matt Mitovich

Supernatural executive producer and director Kim Manners passed away
Sunday night in Los Angeles, following a battle with cancer.

"Everyone at Supernatural is walking around in a daze, shocked and
absolutely devastated," series creator Eric Kripke says in a
statement. "Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a
mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we
miss him desperately. He gave so much to Supernatural, and everything
we do on the show, now and forever, is in memory of him."

Likewise, cast member Jim Beaver (who plays Bobby) remembers Manners
as "one of the best friends and best directors" he has ever known.

Manners most recently directed this season's "Family Remains" episode.

“Supernatural” executive producer & director Kim Manners passed away
last night in Los Angeles, following a battle with lung cancer.

The following is a statement from “Supernatural” creator & executive
producer Eric Kripke:

Everyone at 'Supernatural' is walking around in a daze, shocked and
absolutely devastated. Kim was a brilliant director; more than that,
he was a mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the
family, and we miss him desperately. He gave so much to
'Supernatural,' and everything we do on the show, now and forever, is
in memory of him.

Manners began his career in television in the late 1970s as a
production manager and director for the TV series, "Charlies' Angels."

Manners then joined "The X-Files" in 1995 as a producer. He also
directed and produced "Baywatch" and "21 Jump Street" which starred a
young Johnny Depp.

On "Supernatural," Kim Manners has served as an executive producer and
directed 17 episodes, including every season finale.

Condolences to Manners' cast, crew and family from Monsters and
Critics.

'Supernatural' and 'X Files' producer-director Kim Manners has died

Jan 26, 2009, 10:09 PM | by Ken Tucker

Categories: Television

It's been reported that Kim Manners, a prolific, highly imaginative
director and producer of TV shows including Supernatural and The X
Files, died on Sunday. The cause was cancer.

Manners was among the people who helped Supernatural creator Eric
Kripke define the invitingly dark visual palette of Supernatural; he
directed numerous episodes of the series, including every season
finale--crucial entries in the series that set up cliffhangers which
moved the mythology of the series forward.

For The X Files, Manners was credited as a producer for some of that
series' greatest episodes, including the Emmy-winning "Jose Chung's
'From Outer Space'" and "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," and directed
such memorable entries as the creepy-funny "Leonard Betts."

Manners was a subtle artist working in a commercial medium that
doesn't always prize such qualities. (Manners also directed a number
of episodes of the terrific 1993-94 cult series The Adventures of
Brisco County, Jr.) He was lucky to have found sympathetic creators to
collaborate with, such as Kripke and X Files' Chris Carter. And they
were lucky to work with him.
