AURORA, Colo. - Erma Louise Deutschendorf Davis, the mother of the late
singer/Aspenite John Denver, died Sunday at Aurora South Hospital. She
was 87.
Windstar Foundation in Old Snowmass, the nonprofit, environmental
education organization that Denver helped found, sent out an e-mail
Wednesday announcing her death.
Deutschendorf died after several months of illness, according to
Windstar. She was born in 1922 in Beggs, Okla. As recently as last
fall's annual commemorative events in Aspen to remember John Denver, his
mother celebrated his life with friends, family and fans. Ron
Deutschendorf, Denver's brother and Windstar Foundation president, and
other family members were with Deutschendorf much of the time after she
became ill.
John Denver died Oct. 12, 1997 in a plane crash off the coast of
California. He was alone, piloting the aircraft.
The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to The
Windstar Foundation at www.wstar.org. Donations in her memory may also
be sent to The Windstar Foundation; c/o 4955 Ramblewood Drive; Colorado
Springs, Colo. 80920.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23 from 4 to 8
p.m. each day at Newcomer Funeral Home, 190 N. Potomoc in Aurora.
The public is invited to a memorial service Sunday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at
Faith Presbyterian Church, 11373 E. Alameda Ave., in Aurora.
Windstar, founded in 1976, promotes a holistic approach to addressing
environmental concerns.

It would be sad to outlive your son ... unless your son was Roy.

"Shooting is too good for her.
A slow, lingering, painful death--that would still be too kind after
what she did to both of them.
Why don't these psychotic people just kill themselves and leave their
kids (and/or spouse) alone [pun not necessarily intentional]?"
- From "The Sayings of Roy"
I just passed this obit onto a friend. IIRC he was actually at this
gathering in Aspen, having once upon a time sung in a group with Denver. I
didn't see him mention Denver's passing on his Facebook.

you think roy's existence is a life?
I just heard from Mike, and he was grateful for and saddened by the news.
He knew her quite well. btw, John Denver for awhile sang with the Chad
Mitchell Trio in which my once upon a time neighbour Mike Kobluk is still a
member. He and Denver remained friends until JD's death.
