"Hartman died at age 43 in Westport, Connecticut from a brain tumor caused by
AIDS. Only after Hartman's death did his homosexuality become public knowledge.
At the time of his death, his music was enjoying a revival; a cover version of
his song "Relight My Fire" became a British number-one hit for Take That and
Lulu. Sales of Hartman's solo recordings, group efforts, production, songwriting
and compilation inclusions exceed 50 million records worldwide."

Many thanks, Matthew.
I seem to keep learning about these wonderful voices only *after*
they're on-topic and mentioned on alt.obituaries. First Jon Lucien and
now Dan Hartman.
Not only a damn fine voice and loads of charisma, but boy could he
move.
I've already ordered one of Jon Lucien's albums (A Time For Love). Any
recommendations for a Dan Hartman album to start out on?

Try the "Superhits" album ... nice cross section of tunes.

Keep The Fire Burnin' It's a "best of" CD, has all of his hits, and
is excellent.

Am I missing something? Great song, but do you mean he could really move --
in this video? I saw no evidence of that at all. Or do you mean in other
videos?
Jim Beaver
Granted, the shots of him dancing on the bar dancing for and with the
girl (played by Blanche Napoleon) don't show much - which is why I
said "boy could he move" instead of "boy could he dance." But it was
enough to convince me that he could really move.
Since I first saw that video I've seen a few others. So now I can now
say, boy could he dance. A very talented young man. I wish I could
dance half as well.
Same Blanche who provided background vocals on one of his previous albums?

That's what I understood from reading (albeit quickly) through his fan
site's forum. Upon reading it again, the young woman's name is Joyce
Hyser and Blanche is mentioned elsewhere as one of his backup singers.
"who plays the "beautiful girl" in Dan Hartman's video I Can Dream
About You ?
this is a great video for Dan's fans !"
"The beautiful girl is played by actress Joyce Hyser. You can check it
out on wikipedia the free encyclopedia as they mention it. Apparently
at that time this video also received heavy support from MTV and video
jocks. I founf this out by doing some searches."
Joyce Hyser? From JUST ONE OF THE BOYS? Uh-uh, I don't think so. Here's
some pics of Joyce Hyser, whom I've met on occasion. I can't see a
resemblance at all.

Jim Beaver
I take it back. I went back and looked at the video again. It IS Joyce
Hyser. Very different hairstyle and makeup from what I'm used to seeing on
her. Oops.

Better than Dan, now.

I remember seeing an interview with Hartman where he said people were
often surprised he was a white guy, because so many people assumed the
real singer was the actor in the movie "Streets of Fire". It's crazy, but
I've always liked Hartman because of that interview, and other than the
interview I have never seen him in anything - not even in the original
video for "I Can Dream About You."
The one on YouTube is the second video for the song. The first video
was just clips from the movie and didn't have Hartman in it at all, which
was a shame.

I thought she looked familiar - she was in "Greedy", "Spinal Tap", and
"Staying Alive", and my husband remembered her from "LA Law". She looks a
lot like Justine Bateman in this video.

Thanks Matthew and John. I haven't found the Superhits album yet, but
yesterday I was able to get two CD's on eBay: (Instant Replay and Keep
The Fire Burning). The latter is coming from Australia, so I'm hoping
to be listening to it soon. b
He also wrote, played on and produced most of James Brown's "Gravity"
album, on which he also sang background, including "Living in America"
which was featured in one of the Rocky movies.

Just received a new CD of the "Superhits" album I found on eBay and am
listening to "Hands Down" as I write this. Makes my fingers move
faster ...

Ya think a cold Stella might help?
Loved that song! And now it's stuck in my head for the day.
btw, great days those when even women wore mullets. It's kind of funny
seeing some of my contemporaries of the 70's and 80's who adapted the Farrah
hairdo or the mullet and liked it so much that they never let it go.

Still using ebay after the Payola incident???
