ARE AMERICANS READY TO EXPERIENCE NUDE NIRVANA?
SPA OWNER IS BETTING THEY ARE
The first spa to introduce clothing-optional co-ed hours begins Sunday, June
2 from 4 to 11 PM.
The spa experience relaxing heat, cleansing steam, swirling waters, a
gentle (or perhaps vigorous) massage there's nothing like it to relieve
the
cares of a hectic week. The only trouble with this picture is that most
American spas insist that you swaddle yourself in towels or robes, and even
don a bathing suit to enjoy the Jacuzzi. Travelers know it's quite the
contrary at most European and Japanese establishments, where nudity is
commonplace and unexceptional. Why, after all, would anyone dress for an
experience intended to soothe and pamper the whole body? Why endure the
distraction of worrying about keeping your towel properly adjusted?
Nirvana Spa owner Semone Zamyatin is betting that the time is right to
liberate Americans from this insanity. "Considering the one million plus
skinny-dippers that use Haulover Beach each year, the many top-free female
tourists visiting Miami Beach, and the cosmopolitan orientation of many of
our residents, surely Miami Beach is ready for a spa with a European dress
code," states Semone. "Wear what you find personally comfortable, whether
it's a robe, a towel, or nothing at all," he adds.
A few months ago, Nirvana management began casually discussing the local
clothing optional market with their graphic and public relations team, Chik
and Laurie Shank of Shank Designs -- naturists who are regular visitors at
Haulover's clothing optional beach. Chik learned of the efforts of South
Florida Free Beaches/Florida Naturist Association (SFFB/FNA), the group that
created and mentors this extremely popular beach and contacted Shirley
Mason,
affectionately known as the "Mother" of Haulover Beach. Ms. Mason is also
the
founder and executive director of B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation, SFFB/FNA's
nonprofit educational arm. Little did Semone or Chik know that these groups
had the same idea in mind and had been speaking to the management of the
Dezerland Hotel for several months previous. With that contact, the
educational process began and the viability of the idea became clear.
Semone notes that taking the step to add the clothing optional element to
his
spa is a major financial gamble. "I don't know how my existing spa members
will feel about this, so the risk of loss is great. We plan to build this
use
slowly as the interest grows," said Semone. "I'm fortunate to have the
support of the organized naturist community in South Florida who are willing
to help promote Nirvana Spa to their members and the nude recreation patrons
at Haulover," he continues.
Now, with new clothing-optional hours every Sunday from 4 to 11 PM starting
June 2nd, there is absolutely no excuse to stay away from this new luxury
facility, which occupies the entire lower ground floor of the Dezerland
Hotel
in Miami Beach.
The rejuvenating process starts as soon as you enter, since the air
throughout is ozonated for purity. It's just like walking out in the country
after a thunderstorm. The spa lobby holds chiropractic and physical therapy
center, a full-service beauty salon and juice bar. Also on the premises is
the Synergy Yoga Center, offering a variety of yoga classes daily.
There is also no need to leave the spa hungry because there is an excellent
restaurant inside the spa that serves the most delicious variety of healthy
international cuisine -- which completes the circle of senses.
Beyond the locker rooms, you'll find three steam rooms (Turkish Hamam,
aromatherapy, and the only all-cedar Russian steam room in the United
States), a dry Finnish sauna, an oversize ozonated Jacuzzi, 360-degree Swiss
showers and an exercise room. A wide variety of massage and body treatments
are available in the cozy massage rooms. If you get thirsty, just step up to
the international water bar near the Jacuzzi for a cold drink. You can also
step outside to use the hotel pool, but - at least for now -- you'll have to
put on a swimsuit for that.
For small private, more intimate gatherings, one can also rent the exotic,
beautifully decorated and appointed Moroccan-style VIP room called the
Tantra
Room or women can use the serene Relaxation Room located just off the ladies
private dressing area.
The spa is surely a place at which clothing makes as little sense as at the
beach. It's simply an experience not to be missed, and one need make no
compromise in amenities to enjoy the freedom of nudity there. It's pure Nude
Nirvana!
The Nirvana Spa is located in the Dezerland Hotel, 8701 Collins Avenue,
Miami
Beach.
