We've become alt.merzbow-and-aube, mostly, but it wasn't always like
this. (I confess to being part of that, with my
ever-since-putting-in-my-order-June-30 "all hail Merzbox!" sporadic
posts...)

I consider it a great failing on my part that I have yet to hear
Xenakis. Got a good starting point?

There ya go, you lot, noise/pop!

As lord almighty of this newgroup, I give you and you alone permission
to post on all of these subjects.

I'd say of the above, psych, fuzz, & rock would be out - too conventional.
Minimalism, only if particularily abrasive, methinks.
And as for serious/classical types, why not? I think hearing Ligeti's work
during the "psychedelic voyage" segment of "2001" as a kid might have primed
me for the harsh noise sound early on...

Or how about most of Eraserhead? :) That's what got me. The soundtrack
rocks.

us pain to measure it by, and in order to survive. All our lives we love
illusion, neatly caught between confusion and the need to know we are alive.
Fair 'nuff too. Is there an actual soundtrack for this?
There is a soundtrack available for "Eraserhead". I have only seen the
vinyl. Don't know if there is a CD version. I think it is pretty hard
to find these days.
e
I can confirm this. I haven't seen it in the shops for a while (admittedly, I haven't
been checking) but there is definitely a CD version.

Yep. I have the promo LP with the picture of the baby. I highly
reccomend it, but I don't know where it's available.
I'll have to hit you up for a dub - you live in Ottawa too, I assume?

Yeah, there's a CD version, I've got it. Don't know how hard it is
to find now. Definitely worthwhile, though.

It wasn't recently, but I bought my copy on CD at the freakin mall. It
was on IRS, distributed by A&M.

Absolutely. I believe it was released in vinyl and compact disc format
circa 1989(?). The CD, released on PGD/A&M/IRS, is readily available
from what I can tell. Try checking at CDNOW (www.cdnow.com) for a decent
starting place. Highly recommended for those who dig "bloop-bloopy",
droney soundtrack compositions. Nice.
