Bitsavers just uploaded a bunch of technical magazines.
One of which is Electronics Design, covering a number of years.
New issues are being added.
(Thanks to all of those at bitsavers for donating,
scanning, and posting these excellent resources!)
Anyway, reading the articles and ads gives an
excellent view of the state of the art of
the electronics industry in the 1960s and 1970s.
There were many new developments in IC's, but tubes
certainly still had their place and were
still well advertised. Circuits were switching
in size, but it wasn't easy. Solid state
could be very fickle and there was still a
place for relay control.
Most ads don't show a price but a few do.
That stuff was very expensive. Over a thousand
dollars for a meter or calculator.
In a few cases, e.g. Guardian Electric, a sexy girl in a skimpy
outfit was used to showcase the products. Even HP used a
pretty girl (though conservatively dressed)
in some ads.
One 1973 article discussed the growing
number of fatal fires caused by a defect
in a color TV set. (We had an old RCA
b&w set burn up).
Note that bitsavers created a new magazine
section. Tons of neat stuff.
