Move the dock to different positions on the screen
1. Move your cursor down to the separator between the applications side and the trash side (the horizontal bars). When you see that your mouse changes white into the cursor that lets you change size, then you are in the right place.

2. Hold down the SHIFT key then click on those little bars and drag to a side of the screen and it will move your dock to that side of the screen. And you can move it back the same way as you moved it there. This can also be done from within the Dock preferences. From what I know, there is no way (without installing something) that you can get your dock on the top of your screen.

Magnify your dock icons
There is a setting in the Dock preferences for this as well, but this a temporary keyboard shortcut for magnification.

1. Hold down CONTROL-SHIFT and move your mouse over your dock and it will be magnified.

Get more options when you control click by pressing the OPTION key.
One of the really nice options is the Force Quit option (very useful if there is an application that is slow to quit or isn't responding)

I really do appreciate it when you read and reply.
