The Greek (?) linguist Nikolaos Andriotis (1992; 1st edition 1960) published
a book about the artificial character of the Macedonian language. After a
short historical account of the ancient Macedonians and the presence of
Slavs in Macedonia, the book examines the relationships between the Serbian,
Macedonian, and Bulgarian languages, concluding that the standardization of
the Macedonian language in the post-World War II Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia was an artificial construction fabricated "from above" for
political purposes.
Andriotis's work has been severely criticized by other linguists. The
general consensus is to treat Macedonian as a language and not as a regional
dialect (de Bray 1980; Lunt 1984; Friedman 1975; 1985). The reason for the
divergence of opinion is that Andriotis's critics believe that "language and
dialect are in no way definite quantities" (Lunt 1984:91) and that "the
decision as to whether a given transitional South Slav dialect belongs to
one or another language is not a linguistic one but a sociopolitical one"
(Friedman 1985:36). Given the fact that all South Slav languages are closely
connected, it does seem that the task of differentiating a language from a
dialect is a political, not a scientific one. In other words, the
establishment of the People's Republic of Macedonia constituted a sufficient
criterion for considering the local linguistic medium a language (and not,
as Bulgarian scholars have suggested, a Bulgarian dialect). But Andriotis
did not follow this criterion. Instead, he considered the creation of the
Macedonian republic to be an artificial construction and proceeded to give
an interpretation of its language that was highly tainted by his own
particular value judgments.
I am continuing today the second part regarding the so-called SKOPJAN
IDIOM, of the FEDERATIVE REPUBLIC OF SKOPIA, from the book by the same
title by professor of Linguistics in the University of Thessaloniki,
Andriotis. My intentions to show the clear evidences of the impact that
the Greek language has upon this idiom. As I said before, the book can
not be scanned due to the fact that in the original the relation between
the languages are written with different fonts. The book by Andriotis
was written regarding the official language of SKOPJA. There is
something else. The ones of you that are Greeks, read them carefully and
then you'll see HOW EASY is to learn, understand and speak the idiom .
Especially once you reach the words of the Church. It seems that you are
speaking pure Greek. But then attention.........they might call you
SKOPIANS !! Not only this, one can communicate ONLY with the words of
Greek origins, there was NO NEED for the SKOPIANS to DEVELOPE a
language because the language was ALREADY in there !!
The first attemps to DIFFERENCIATE the language did not begin till 1940
!!! And now they are making words from every other language in order to
present us with a................."Ma-c-edonian language" !!!
And I am a Chinese.
And here are the rest of the words having Greek origins, in the idiom
of the FEDERATIVE STATE OF SKOPJA.

Next are the FPREIGN WORDS WHICH PASSED INTO THE SKOPJE DIALECT FROM
GREEK.
Due to the fact that I am getting tired, but above all due to the fact
that I believe that I MADE MY POINT, I am ending the presentation of the
WORDS.
I might copy or scan the text in English that is a much easier work and
I'll post it on a future day.
Regards to all .................L.
So? What about the Skopjean Greek language?!

For fair use only
From page 25 TO PAGE 31 of Andriotis book ""THE FEDERATIVE REPUBLIC OF
SKOPJE AND ITS LANGUAGE"".
Rest from 32-43 to come later. This is a laborious task due to the fact
that I have to post word by word in all three languages with Latin
Characters. In Adriotis book the words were with Skopian-Greek- Latin
characters, so I couldn't copy it and paste it. Enjoy the
Greek-Makedonian language.
<<<<<Slavisation went through a stage of bilingualism during which they
spoke both Greek and Slav. That stage enabled them to keep in their new
language part of the treasure of vocabulary of their old national
tongue.
For the full appreciation of the profound influence of Greek
vocabulary on the language of the state of Skopje, it is important to
give the reader the commonest Greek words to be foundin the dialect of
Skopje in their Slavic and Greek form, divided into grammatical
categories. First of all I will give those words whose meaning shows
that the Slavs borrowed from the Greeks in the midst of whom they lived
without the intercession of the Greek ecclesiastical administration or
education and culture.
I will then list the words with which their language was enriched
through the Greek language of the Church, the Schools, and the State
during the Byzantine era, the Turkish occupation and the modern period.

About Andriotis
All the works written between 1903 and 1913 have in common is a spirit of
militant patriotism and an eagerness to get the nation out of the corner
into which it had been squeezed after the humiliating Greco-Turkish War of
1897, to track down its foes, and eventually to take revenge. At the same
time, this spirit necessitated the classification of the Christians in
Macedonia into antithetical categories: heroes and traitors, Greeks and
Bulgarians, martyrs and bloodthirsty monsters, victims and assassins.
Tracing the real enemy was not always the easiest task. The situation in
Macedonia was obviously much more complex than contemporary diplomats wished
or than journalists presented. Unfortunately, in the following five decades
all the books on the subject, taken at their face value, reproduced
stereotypes about society in Ottoman Macedonia containing little if any
historical validity.

Idio, your thinking is impaired. The two things you are relating
are non related. You are a fool.

Translation: Due to the fact that I made a fool of myself and exposed my
ignorance,
but above all, due to the fact that nobody is no longer even reads what I
write, I am getting
the hell out of here.

Translation : I might do what I have been always doing before, copying and
pasting from Andriotis,
but the damn book fell apart from too much handling that is impossible to
read much less scan.
