I cannot tell you how much these readings mean to me. I have been under conviction about how the "holiday" is celebrated and can no longer go along with what we have attached to it, around the world. ... I did want to thank you for these writings. I am trying to absorb it all, but it is helping me to sit back and keep my focus.

It is good to be challenged in this season. While it is far more comfortable to rest in the warm feelings of tradition, it is better to be awed, mystified, and humbled and pushed in our faith to wonder, question, and risky action. This reading, especially, calls us to open our hearts to the frightening possibility of transformation.

I enjoyed this article by Phillips. It gets me wondering what if Jesus Christ should return this Christmas as king will we be alert vigilant and industrious?
We are truly celebrating the awe-inspiring humility of God at Christmas time.

This is a wonderful reminder of the reality of Christs coming and its true significance for the world. While anyone can appreciate glad tidings, peace and goodwill, we have an even greater reason to celebrate- Gods grace. That is, after all, the greatest miracle we can experience. In this season especially, may we act toward others in a spirit of grace, the true reason for the season!

In true human fashion, we have somehow missed the message by using this incredible event as an excuse to drink and be merry, with devastating consequences.

It is all good and well if you are fortunate enough to afford a celebratory meal with loved ones, but how do we reconcile our lavish spending in the face of suffering?
