One day last week, Netscape stopped working on one of my pcs. Both are
running XP SP3.

o Clicking on the navigator icon does nothing.

o trying 'run as' drop-down menu option on the icon from explorer, the
message appears: "A device attached to the system is not functioning"

o Doing an "open with" using Navigator on the bookmarks.html file:
Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Netscape\Navigator
\Profiles\xxxxyyy.default\bookmarks.html results in msg:

Windows cannot find Documents and Settings\user
\Application
Data\Netscape\Navigator\Profiles\xxxxyyy.default
\bookmarks.html

Netscape has been deleted and reinstalled. no help. It works fine on
the other pc.

Ran McAfee and have ZoneAlarm- they found nothing.

Thank You......

close Netscape. Then click on the windows start
button, then run and enter:

netscape.exe -p

this will start the Netscape profile manager. Create a
test profile. Did that work?

Peter... Thank you for your quick reply.

It did not work. I get the message in a popup dialog box: "Windows
cannot find 'netscape.exe'. Make sure you type the name
correctly...."

When I do the full path for Navigator.exe, a little dialog box comes
up: 'Navigator - Choose User Profile'.

Steps taken:
1. Backed up bookmarks.html file
2. The existing profile was deleted
3. New one was created.
4. Pressed the 'Start Netscape' button.

It all worked!! Running through the halls happy with both arms up
yelling!

Thank You.

5. Lastly: shut down Netscape and restored bookmarks.html file.

for some its netscape.exe. For others its
Navigator.exe, and still others have Netscp.exe, so its
hard to figure out which is which.

Glad you got things working again.
