A couple of weeks ago, I posted a request for experience moving
Unix mail files to Windows, since I am about to let my Unix
account at Eskimo expire. I no longer feel the need for Unix
access. I would like to thank all those who responded.

I thought I would share my experience in case others are facing
the same type of issue. FYI, I use Internet Explorer as my
browser and Outlook Express as my Usenet News reader on my
Windows XP Home Edition machine.

I had saved message files on the Unix host created by ucb/mail,
trn, and Pine. I used the get -a command of my ftp tool (NcFtp)
to transfer the files to my Windows XP machine. I downloaded
Eudora 6.2.3.4 for free from eudora.com and activated it in
Light (Limited but free) Mode. I moved the Save files to the
Eudora File directory and gave them the .mbx extension used by
Eudora. When I opened Eudora, I had the desired access to the
files. I could view the headers and open individual messages. I
then used the File Import feature of Outlook Express to import
the files from Eudora. It worked fine, even though the import
feature only promised to import files from Eudora through
version 3.0 of Eudora. The messages are now available in Outlook
Express, and I can remove Eudora if I want to.

I hope this information may prove to be useful to others.
