Potter County authorities filed a motion Wednesday to seize $14,000 from a
man arrested Wednesday with $8,000 stuffed between his buttocks.
Potter County authorities contend the money was used or intended to be used
to commit a felony.
According to an affidavit filed by an Amarillo police officer, a person
flagged down an Amarillo police officer near the downtown Greyhound Bus
Station who spotted a man smoking marijuana outside.
The officer smelled the odor of marijuana, and the suspect threw a
marijuana cigar on the ground and stepped on it. The officer arrested the
man on a marijuana possession charge and placed the suspect in a patrol
car. The suspect also attempted to hide another marijuana cigar in the back
seat of the patrol car.
The officer then transported the man to the Potter County Detention Center,
where he was searched.
During the search, officers found $1,887 in the man's front pocket and
another $4,090 in his socks. Officers also located $8,050 in cash and six
postal money orders totaling $4,200 hidden in the man's buttocks.
The suspect told police he obtained $5,000 of the money sponsoring a St.
Louis rap group called Forty Caliber, but St. Louis authorities said there
had been no concerts presented by a band of that name. The suspect said he
had saved the rest of the money.
Amarillo police checked the man's criminal history and determined he had
been convicted of a narcotics offense in Los Angeles.
