know of a little fight going on with his name in it... got curious, and find
his "genealogy" information rather suspect... Starts with stating his father
is Norwegian, and his mother full blood Comanche, (Duane is not enrolled)
that his mothers christian name is "Bertha" and her Indian name "Lily"
Well Lily is a nice name, but since when do Comanche give Lily as a Indian
name??
So... I did me some checking, and sure enough, I found Lily, I also found a
death record on one of her children, a brother to actor Duane Loken, and
that death record lists her maiden name.... Bakkense, I did some more
checking, she was born in Minnesota, her parents were born in Denmark..
anyone know how to get a full blood Comanche from Denmark?

maybe he meant Saami (indigenous people of Denmark)? ...but seriously, I've

You do genealogy for a living?
Didn't you check the death year of that 'brother'. It's his father for
crying out loud! I don't know where his father's mother was born. But
the name Bakkense is connected to the father, not the brother.
So I don't know who you found, but it sure wasn't his mother. I have
her details, and she was NOT born in Minnesota!

I feel you should be introduced to the group here...
Annie runs the site called Native Celebs, she lists actors and actresses who
are Native on her site, most these people are enrolled members of their
tribe. I commend her on the hard work she does on her site. She wishes to
promote Indian actors and actresses.
I also know that Annie is a big fan of Duane Loken, he is one of the few (if
not the only) person on her site whom is not a enrolled member of the tribe
he claims, which is Comanche.
If you check the link Annie has provided, you will see what I am talking
about. It is listed that Duanes father is not Indian, but then a stereotype
gets listed for his "full blood Comanche mother" That when Duanes mother and
father married, his fathers family disowned them, and his mothers disowned
them as well. That her Christian name is Bertha, her Indian name is "Lily"
now I have to ask, since when did the Comanche start giving out Indian names
as "Lily"?
I had no problems finding record on a Lily Loken, it was record she herself
provided to the US Government, that listed her parents as being born in
Denmark, did Lily lie? Or is this a different Lily Loken?
Annie, as per your private snippy e-mail to me on this subject, and I asked
in private, I will now also ask in public... Have Duane provide you with his
mothers maiden name. I am more than willing to give a full public appology
should I be able to prove his claims. If I can prove he is not what he
claims, will you remove the claim he is Comanche?

I'm his webmaster, which means my responsibility is to him, not to

And all your information is totally wrong. There are many people on my
site who are not enrolled in their tribes, for various reasons.

they'll get in touch when and if it's appropriate and deal with your

Are we to understand then, that your site is devoted to
propaganda/advertisement for actors who are using their proclaimed
nationality as a celebrity tool? And that it is a blend of true-background

I take the refusal of Duane's willingness to provide simple information for
proof about his Comanche blood as a clear statement he is not what he is
claiming to be. There is all kinds of information on his fathers side of the
family on your website, why hide the mothers side unless he really has
something he wants to hide?
If my information is so wrong, then how could I come up with the name
Bakkense? Not a common name, and you yourself confirmed it to be from his
family... guess I really suck at this research huh?
What is Duanes attorney going to prove? And why is it when someone cant
prove something they always want to intimidate people with their attorney?
Well I aint scared of his attorney... because if he wants to take legal
action against me he is welcomed to, I am willing to go to court.. is Duane
ready to provide proof to his claims in court, or be held in contempt of
court? Does Duane want to bring that much attention to himself and this
issue of him not being able to prove his claims?
It is not my career here that is at risk.

think Comanche men are hot! He sure dont look Comanche to me... he got a

FWIW
I have posted the consolidated Comanche census lists, 1879-1895, with
1901 allotment data, on my web site:

I also have consolidated the census data from 1901-1923 (and a payment
list from 1945) but have not posted that data yet.
In that latter data set, I find 7 Comanche individuals named either
Bertha or Lily, but none named both (and of course, neither is a
"Comanche" name.

I have learned Duane Lokens mothers name... She was Bertha Julia Laura. I
just dont know why Duane would think this is such private information....
her mothers maiden name was Refugio... In researching the surname of Laura,
the name comes from many places, but on Bertha's death record, her place of
birth is listed as Mexico. In researching the last name of Refugio, it is
pretty much out of Mexico. Of the 19 people I found with this name, 17 were
born in Mexico, two born in Texas with their parents born in Mexico, and all
listed their languge as Spanish.
