Ben Akerley writes:
Woman Was Made For Man
Earlier I mentioned the two decidedly contradictory chronicles of the
creation fable in Genesis. In the first account, man and woman are
created simultaneously; in the second version, Eve is formed from one
of Adam's ribs. Paul chose to reject the earlier narrative and to
capitalize on the portrayal which put woman in an inferior role to
that of man.
If ever there were an explanation of woman's inferior status in
Occidental society, it is in the Scriptures. Paul delineates the
importance of woman recognizing her "place" ad nauseam.
I Corinthians 11:3-12 "But I would have you know, that the head of
every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the
head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his
head covered, dishonoerth his head. But every woman that prayeth or
prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoreth her head; for that is
even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered,
let her also be shorn; but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or
shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his
head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is
the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman
of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman: but the woman
for the man. For this cause out the woman to have power on her head
because of the angels. Nevertheless neither is the man without the
woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the
woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all
things of God."
I Timothy 2: 12-15 "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp
authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first
formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being
deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved
in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness
with sobriety."
I Peter 3:1-2 "Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own
husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they may without the word be
won by the conversation of their wives; while they behold your chaste
conversation coupled with fear..."
I Corinthians 14:34-36 "Let your women keep silence in the churches:
for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to
be under obedience, as also saith the law. and if they will learn any
thing, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is a shame for
women to speak in the church. What! came the word of God out from you?
or came it unto you only?"
Ephesians 5:22-24 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as
unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ
is the head of the church; and he is the savior of the body. Therefor
as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own
husbands in every thing."
Colossians 3:18-19 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands,
as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter
against them."
Much of what has already been written here indicates that the Hebrew
culture was a patriarchal hierarchy par excellence and that women were
merely valuable as property. Loss of virginity and acts of adultery
were thus interpreted in light of the merchandise no longer having its
former value. For that reason it was an affront to the female's father
in the case of violating her virginity and the woman's husband in the
case of committing adultery--economics, pure, plain and simple. Just a
few quotations from the Old Testament will suffice to illustrate the
point.
A husband was encouraged to fondle his wife and to exercise material
rights in particular with her bosom.
Proverbs 5:18-19 "Let they fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the
wife of they youth. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe;
let her breast satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always
with her love."
Instant divorce was available to a man who was displeased wit his
wife. However, if a wife was displeased with her husband, she had no
such option to send him away or simply to take leave of him. Yet an
unhappy husband was free to get rid of an unwanted wife.
Read Deuteronomy 24:1-4.
An Israelite in financial straits was free to sell his daughter as a
slave. It would have been unthinkable for him to have sold his son
into slavery.
Read Exodus 21:7-11.
A man who violated a female slave was forgiven for the act provided
that she had not as yet been given her freedom.
Leviticus 19:20 "And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a
bondmaid, betrothed to a husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom
given her; she shall be scourged: they shall not be put to death,
because she was not free."
The most revealing custom relegating all women to second class
citizenship was marriage for it was almost invariably arranged by
parents. If the son occasionally had some say in the matter, the
daughter almost never did.
In Genesis 24, the marriage arrangement between Isaac and Rebekah is
retold very touchingly and simply. Isaac's father, Abraham, had sent
his steward to seek Rebekah's hand. She had never seen Isaac, but
didn't hesitate to reply to the emissary.
Genesis 24:58 "And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou
go with this man? And she said, I will go."
Rebekah accompanied the steward to the home of Abraham and was greeted
by Isaac who was meditating in the fields as they arrived. They wasted
no time in consummating their prearranged union.
Genesis 24:64-67 "And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw
Isaac, she lighted off the camel. For she had said unto the servant,
What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant
had said, It is my master; therefore she took a veil, and covered
herself. And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. And
Isaac brought her into his mother's Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah,
and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted
after his mother's death."
From such quaint customs emerged the lowly status of women reinforced
rather than diminished in the New Testament and on into our own age.
Along the way there was help from the early church fathers like
Tertullian who declared:
"You are the devil's gateway: You are the unsealer of that forbidden
tree: You are the first deserter of the divine law: You are she who
persuaded him whom the devil was not valiant enough to attack. You
destroyed so easily God's image, man. On account of your desert--that
is, death--even the Son of God had to die."
With very good reason, then American's great suffragist, Elizabeth
Cady Stanton had this to say: "The Bible and the Church have been the
greatest stumbling blocks in the way of women's emancipation."
The Bible can't be the word of a divine cosmic being, because it
wallows in filth and depravity. The Bible is much more likely obscene
Bronze Age ramblings than the inspired word of an all knowing God.
Nothing in the Bible more forcefully reinforces the viewpoint that the
Bible is an ancient book of fables and legends and moral precepts
recorded by men than an impartial examination of the Biblical passages
which relate to sex.
Ben Akerley, in his book 'The X-rated Bible' writes: "I insist that if
the Bible is inspired, the passages relating to sex should reveal
great enlightenment and exceptionally advanced knowledge and
understanding. What we encounter instead are superstition, fear,
primitive thinking and gross misunderstanding of even the most basic
sexual functions."
The Bible literally wallows in obscenity.

Note that SHE gets the whipping, but the man goes free.

"I am a false prophet and God is a superstition.." "Again!"
There Will Be Blood
Unfortunatly that's the way it was in the old days. Unfortunatly
that's the way it is in some countries even today.
Not in Socialist countries, where the Bible is used as toilet paper.
Women aren't whipped for any reason. That's why we need to raise our
sites and help each other up, and fiercely support women. We should be
furious about these backwards attitudes. Another world is possible
Exactly. No sense wasting the good stuff.

There's the pot calling the kettle black, the Bible are cruel stories
featuring Jews in particular.
Paul ?! Who the hell is 'Paul' ? Why is this posted to alt.native.
The Roman empire, of which the jesus-cult is its main stolen religion
(stolen from Israel), is by its nature an Imperial endeavour. Therefore
I suppose it's only 'native' to talk about the Roman Empire if in fact
you are from Rome / Italian soil. (hehe) There is no 'Paul' in the
tribal / native religion of Israel.
By the way, you could also look at it differently: men where deemed too
feeble on their own, therefore the marriage was created where the women
can help their man. 'Women created from a side of the man,' the man
feebility being the reason for creating 'the woman who is a side in the
marriage.'
I thought that up myself right now, so don't complaign :(.
