One of mine, is Ch. 10, p. 190: "The big fat dumb shit crawled humbly
to his hands and feet.... Philbert waited, expected, to fall down
again."

Powwow Highways is really popular out here. I used to rent the movie
for my Dad. He liked it when the Chairman went to Santa Fe looking for
Buddy and Philbert. The Police Chief described Philbert and asked the
Chairman if it was someone from his Tribe. The chairman said no, must
be Navajo. My Dad would really laugh. Now the video store carries it
on dvd.

Hey David. I'm reading Abduction at Roswell. I had to make myself go

When we were kids here on the rez we walked everywhere. We would swim
and fish etc. We were outside. Even at night. We saw a lot of things
in the sky. We'd see little points of light go from one star to
another.

Right now I'm reading the foia documents.

Like I said you're not very bright are you. Hey donna. Drop your
drawers and bend over. Wayne is hyperventilating again.

Well, i'm sorry, Monica, but seeing as how you have such an
infatuation with my butt, i don't think dropping my drawers is a very
safe option. You might be one of them crazy 'stalkers' with a butt
fetish, for all i know. After all, you are bringing my posterior part
into nearly all your conversations now. Seriously... the world does
not revolve around my butt.

Yeah, that always got a big laugh in the theatres, back when I was
still invited to Fests. At U. of Hawaii I'd make wisecracks, to some
good laughs during the movie (a crowd of a thousand one time,
overflowing with people sitting in the aisles), about a few of the
phony dialogs inserted by the hollywood fools who wanted screenplay
credit, like Rabbit flirting to Buddy in the middle of the street in
the Santa Fe Plaza, "I know what I want."

"I didn't write that." The women students appreciated that.

We're going to show it in Roswell this summer at the UFO Festival,
along with readings of my new book,

I live in the country too, and see all the stars. Too bad city-folk
have gotten away from an awareness of the stars. . .

I love hanging out on Cheyenne River Rez, way out in the country and
shooting the bull with Elders about UFOs/Spirits.

I'm glad you didn't write that too. I have a copy of Powwow Highways
and a friend gave me Sweet Medicine. Very good. I love Philbert. You
created a classic character there.

One time I saw a crow drop a clam on the rocks to break it open. A
seagull swooped in and stole it. The crow chased him and fought him
over that clam. They both dropped it and another seagull gulped it
down.

I don't know why I told that story. Maybe it's two elves squawking
like a seagull and the smell of perjury on him.

I agree with that. When you can't see the stars, part of our
awareness and our sense of connection to the Mystery gets cut off,
IMO. I can see them very well here out in the country. But I was
literally blown away by being in the middle of the desert in Nevada
and looking up at the sky. It was as if I could reach up and touch
them, and they came all the way down to the ground all around. That
was a very spiritual experience for me, very humbling. I felt both
very, very small and at the same time part of something without
beginning or end.
