California has instituted a training program for prison mail-room
personnel on how to prevent interference with "All The Way." The
Golden State had banned the publication for a year, on the grounds
that it constituted a "security-risk." However, the ban was lifted on
the eve of a Nationalist lawsuit against California, as well as the
Corrections Corporation of America, which had endeavored to enforce
the ban.
George Giurbino, the Director of Adult Institutions, had noted that
"this publication does not meet the criteria for placement on the
list, as it is patriotic and anti-Communist and has never been proven
to incite violence." However, some, such as the Solano State Prison,
continued to return the periodical to sender marked, "Unauthorized
Materials." Travis Miskam, serving a sentence for "hate," was one such
subscriber. Nationalists quickly swung into action, insofar as they
have the most recipients in California.
According to Brian Lueth, the Chief of Operations Support for the
Division of Adult Institutions, "Upon review, it was determined that a
mistake did occur at CSP-Solano. In order to prevent this from
occurring again, staff were provided with information on the proper
procedures." Lueth, also, required that "training to all mail-room
staff" be instituted. The same training had been provided by Colorado,
under court-order. Florida and Wisconsin had lifted their bans,
shortly after California. Florida additionally provided a fast-track
appeal-system for any subscribers who were victimized by mail-room-
personnel lacking requisite First-Amendment skills. Lueth advised the
publishers to "please resubmit your publication" to Miskam and that
"the mail-room will process the mail."
Publishers urged subscribers to let them know if any issues had fallen
prey to further "mistakes," saying that they would remedy any
problems. Meanwhile, Jean Gibson reported that he was having
difficulty receiving his subscription in Missouri, but Nationalists
said that they would monitor the situation, insofar as officials had
already lifted their ban and no other interference had been
documented. "So long as officials act in good faith and make up for
their mistakes, there should be no problems," the publishers added.
Dustin Johnson said that his subscription gave "the unity we lack."
"One more thing I love," he added, "is that Nationalists show the
importance of not only exercising the mind, but also the body,
stressing exercise and nutrition."
