i'm lookig for the name of this famous painting, along with the artist.
it is quite common on postcards and reproductions these days. It
depicts a frontal view of 2 young (nude i believe) lovers with a a
veil or canapy that is wafting behind them. It looks like a greek
mythology theme, maybe cupid and venus? i'm pretty sure it was british
late 1800's pre-Raphaelite period. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EMAIL ME THE
TITLE? I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT.....
THANKS SO MUCH
MARKO
PHOTOGRAPHY? AS A GIFT?

This reminds me of something - it's certainly not British, nor pre-
Raphaelite, though it is in the National Gallery in London. I think
it's called something like 'the origin of the Milky Way', and depicts
Cupid and Venus, with a jet of stars issuing from Venus's breast(s?).
I'm away from London and from all my books at the moment, so can't look
it up, but it's Italian, either late-sixteenth or seventeenth century.

Sounds like a Tarot image, the major arcana card "The Lovers". There were
many decks produced around then by different artists, and most of them had
full-sized canvasses produced first, from which the miniatures were taken
to make cards.
