"The real meaning of the motif of the dying god"

Abstract: Narcissus, and other tales, have been abundantly used in
concretistic types of psychological interpretation. The article shows
that they ought to be viewed in abstract terms as portraying processes
in the individual and collective psyche. The examined stories depict the
mystery of incarnation, symbolic of the emancipative function of
conscious realization. The gender of the god is discussed, and it is
argued that the dominance of the masculine divinity depends on natural
processes of conscious enhancement.

Keywords: archetype, Princess Cottongrass, Coyote Blue, Narcissus,
Unicorn, Christ, Lucifer, Oedipus.

Sounds like a very narrow selection of dying gods and archetypes. Many
female divinities die(literally and figuratively in the process of
giving birth to the hero/messiah/redeeming god.
