Actually, nobody does. People on this group usually team
up to ignore spammers and trolls, so they go away. Keeps
traffic high enough to keep us from getting dumped for
inactivity (if they still do such a thing.)

Groups that are moderated generally have .mod at the end of
their titles, and actually most are not, hence the frequent
flamefests on other groups. This one was newgrouped (that
is, introduced by Jeff, whose last name I cannot for the life
of me remember now, and he may not be posting anymore,
as he and I went thru some life-shaking health problems at
the same time, about 6-7 years ago. Nearly killed me, and
I hate to say it, but coulda taken him, too. Too bad if so,
he was a personable guy and had an encyclopedic grasp
of mythology.

Not really familiar with an Archer's sword, but I suspect it
would be fairly short, kinda like an Arkansas Toothpick.
Bow being so long, I would think a long sword would
interfere with mobility. Just trying to logic it out, when
I could just as easily look it up.....just lazy, I guess.

I've been here for about, ooh... 3-4 years now, at most. The whole time I
don't think the post rate ever got past 5 a day. Came close when we had the
RPG going, but there were only two of us regularly gaming and then the whole
thing really... well, died.

This gives you a good idea of the overall shape and size. They are
shortswords, but I've seen them vary quite a lot in length. I forgot to
mention that the sword I made is just a pine waister. Blade and hilt are one
solid piece with the crosspiece fitted over the blade itself. It's sitting
on a shelf I carved in so, if hit, the crosspiece won't crush my hand. Of
course, to fight with a fancy pine stick is rather stupid. The next stage in
my crafting involves making another out of a hardwood. Possibly Tasmanian
Oak. Once I get that done, I'll see if I can't give it a go in metal.

Yeah, when the gamers showed up a few years back,
a lotta the serious mythologists kicked up a fuss, so
I hadda plead their case, mainly that if we didn't get
some active posting the powers that be would cancel
us. In the end, rationality prevailed. Shame to see
it taper off, though.

Not as stupid as you'd think. When I studied Kendo
in Japan, we used a bamboo stick cut into 4 pieces
and tied together so that it made a loud crack when
striking one's opponent. Doesn't sound like much,
but trust me, when yer gettin' the blue bejesus beat
out of ya by a 4-foot tall Japanese high school girl,
it doesn't sound stupid at all!

*waves* I was part of the RP crowd here around, oh, 9 years or so
ago(ye gods I feel old)... At one point this place was hitting a
dozen(or more!) posts a day. Alas, those days seem to have ebbed.
But yeah, it was Jeff Hurwitt(I think that was the spelling) who
founded it.
