House of Blues just behind. Can't go wrong with either of these. I have high
hopes that Tsongas will go to the top of the heap.

My box says it is 5.1 Dolby digital surround, and the shows from 79 were
better than those from 78. That band split up a year later is hardly
relevant! The Tormato tour is many people's favourite era. My only
complaint is that the set is so short on this dvd - no Awaken or HotS..

poor sound and picture quality makes Live in Philadelphia a less
satisfying DVD than those other two.
That said, the Philadelphia DVD will take you back to the golden age
when Steve Howe was the Yes guitarist known as "old leatherpants".

LOL, so I'm a troll just because I think the 79 shows were better?! I
invite to check out Arriving UFO (Miami 79) and Circus of Heaven 79, both
awesome shows. I admit that I haven't heard as many Tourmato boots as you,
but the ones from 78 that I have heard eg Wembley lack that special groove
that I feel the later ones have, IMHO only. HoTS in particular improved
rhythmically as the tour went on I feel.
Oh, and how many trolls do you know who have been into Yes for 20 years?
Still if you want to act like an arrogant elitist who has exclusive rights
to the "truth" be my guest. I see 1 other poster already, who agrees with
me about this dvd. A spectrum of opinion is surely healthy after all?

Tormato tour, seek out some of the earliest shows. Boston 8/30&31/78,
Providence 9/1, Springfield 9/2, New Haven 9/3&4, New York 9/7 to name
a few. If I listen to one of those, followed by a '79, or late '79
show, there is no comparison.

No, you're claiming the 79 Philly *DVD* is the *best*, as per the title of
the thread. Whether or not you feel the 79 _shows_ were better is
irrelevant, we're discussing the DVDs here. The Philly 79 DVD is abysmal at
best, it's nowhere near a complete show and not particularly representative
of the better moments of that tour, the picture is dark & grainy, the
editing sterile & uninspired, the sound is so poor that the producers of
Yesyears chose to replace the audio of the clip of Siberian Khatru from that
Philly 79 show with the audio from (IIRC) Yessongs. It's mono & muffled
throughout, the source 1979 videotape, not some seperate multitrack. I'll
grant you Howe plays better than on later DVDs, but it's a struggle to
actually hear what he's playing through the layers of gauze. The *technical*
flaws alone of the Philly 79 DVD would be enough to drop it considerably
down any "best of" list. If people buy into your "this is the Best Yes DVD"
and go out & buy the thing, they're bound to be sorely disappointed, to say
the least.

I accept the bulk of your criticisms about the quality. I didn't know it
was mono as my system isn't so hi tech that I could tell! I thought the
picture was ok on my pc monitor. The main reason I chose this as my
favourite is because, despite the poor set list, it captures the classic
line up in their heyday. I personally rate their playing back then above
what it's like now, even if this wasn't the best show on the tour. Plus the
dvd is cheap on the net!
My *actual* favourite Yes dvd is QPR 1975, but that's not "officially"
available ;-) Philly is the only "early" performance I know of that is
legally available.

I just prefered the later shows based on the few boots from 78 I had
heard... Arriving Ufo from Miami June 79 is the best show I have heard from
this tour.

I could go either way with 1 and 2. I like House of Blues because it rocks
more. Symphonic has the best version of "And You And I" ever.
I also like the 90125 Live concert video which is not out on DVD yet. I
copied my VHS version to DVD. I'd rate it #3 when it comes out.

I did pick up the Brazilian 9012Live DVD. It's basically the VHS
transferred, but the quality is good.
