former Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant and his new band New Sensation
will be the opening act for the Who's 2002 US tour in Madison Square Garden
as confirm by the led zeppelin website at
www.led-zeppelin.com . Right after
this tour, the band with Zak Starkey on drums will go back in the studio in
October for a new Who album the first since 1982's "It's Hard" and have been
in negotitaions with record labels such as Clive Davis' J Records and with
MCA for the release of a possible 2003 Who album. Townshend and Entwistle
will be the writers for the album. Both the Who and Led Zeppelin are two
pioneering hard rock bands of the 1960's and 1970's and both ruled arena
rock. They both had great drummers whose deaths from their self-destructive
excesses has lost their magic as a group. The Who continued on with Kenney
Jones who lacked the fire of a Keith Moon , who I believe was the backbone
of the group's musical sound in the studio and the road. Led Zeppelin lost
John Bonham and have not replaced him, but has occassionally reunited in
Live Aid in 1985 with Tony Thompson on drums and Phil Collins on drums and
it was a sad performance, and in 1988 for the Atlantic Records' 40th
Anniversary Show with Bonzo's son Jason on drums and in 1995 at the Rock n'
Roll Hall Of Fame induction for the last time with Jason Bonham on drums,
who is the equivalent to his late father's drumming and Bozo taught Jason
the drums. Robert has been adamant about about a Led Zeppelin reunion and
has felt it would not be the same as it was and has been moving forward with
his solo career while Jimmy Page has been wanting to reform Led Zeppelin.
The Who got Zak Starkey on drums , who happens to be Ringo's kid and is a
protege of the late Keith Moon, and it was Moonie who taught Zak to be the
drummer that he is today. Both Moonie and Bonzo played an awesome drum solo
on "Moby Dick" in 1977 Led Zeppelin concert in MSG. While Zeppelin is dead
and buried, The Who is revived following their benefit concert for the Sept.
11 victims, and they stole the show and even younger fans who have saw the
boy band Backstreet Boys and Destiny's Child, got to sing along with their
songs and the firemen and policemen have been moved by their music from
their 1971 masterpiece "Who's Next" and their 1978 classic "Who Are You",
out of all the acts from the event , like Queen who stole the show at Live
Aid in 1985, The Who rocked the house and they were the talk of the town,
and love live the music of Pete Townshend, Thank you for the great songs you
wrote....
Look for Plant and The Who in MSG it is official...
