ROLLING STONES VINTAGE ORIGINAL 1972 AMERICAN TOUR POSTER.

This is a great looking art decco style Stones poster that was sold by
vendors at shows and also was posted around town to promote the event.
" The tour followed the release of the group's album Exile on Main St.
a few weeks earlier on 12 May. But this was far more than a rock
band's typical promotional tour following the release of a new
recording. Rather, it became a major pop cultural event of the time.
It came at the height of the Stones' reputation as "The Greatest Rock
'n' Roll Band in the World," and attention was focused on the group's
multi-edged visibility in popular consciousness: as purveyors of raw
R&B carnal energy, and as the epitome of bohemian decadence, the band
were seen as the opposite of the now-defunct, and relatively wholesome
Beatles. At the same time, singer Mick Jagger was by now a glamorous
celebrity who had moved into the jet set of high society. These
aspects were all intertwined, and so the tour attracted much attention
from observers of both high culture and low
culture." ( Wikipedia.com)
I was told by Roger Puckett, the store owner that I had
purchased them from that the ones I aquirred were left over from the
New York shows of July 24 through July26-(Jaggers birthday).
After the shows ended the vendors had surplus posters. Rather than
toss them in the trash, one vendor sold the leftovers to a NYC poster
store, "Triton Gallery" on 45th street, that dealt mainly with
BroadwayTheatre Posters. Triton, however, was a logical place to sell
to since they were closely affiliated with artist David Byrd, a
theatre poster artist who also did work for Bill Graham's Fillmore
East. As a result, Triton carried a number of rock posters. The owner,
Roger Puckett, had a very successful business in Broadway posters and
never really marketed the rock poster's. One lucky day in the late
1980's I came to meet Roger and that started a business relationship
that made us both very happy. Roger was finally able to unload his
inventory of rock posters, that had been just sitting there gathering
dust for years, and I found an incredible source. I spent the next
three years, and many dollars, buying up as many posters as I could
afford.

Aside from the 72 Sones Tour posters, I puchased many of the other
posters I now have up for sale in my Ebay store.
