It would stand to reason that the CD was released after the movie was
already started, but Kevin (the director) might have heard it at a concert
or some other way as much as a year earlier.

dude....

chasing amy was about kevin and joey-lauren adams relationship, which
started mid/post mallrats. so i highly doubt it. good flick though, in
general.

I know, but where did he get the idea to make her a lesbian? Joey isn't in
reality. That's all I meant.

lesbian fantasies/dillemmas were not born with the writing of Pink Triangle. They have been around for a while now. Remember, Weezer didnt invent everything. C'mon

I didn't think they did, but it seems awfully coincidental that Weezer would be on the soundtrack for Mallrats in '95.  Weezer comes out with Pink Triangle in '96.  Then, Chasing Amy is released in '97.  I'm just wondering if the song had ANY connection with the plot of the movie.

It didn't, Chasing Amy was about Kevin Smiths relationship with Joey Lauren Adams, however, he put his own twist on it by making her a lesbian, it has NOTHING to do with weezer, at all.

Yeah.  That's what they're telling me in the Kevin Smith 'group.  And, he used it & Suzanne for test screenings of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
i remember hearing that pink triangle was being considered as "the song" for that movie, but kevin smith ended up deciding that it was too straightforward.

Don't get me wrong. I love Chasing Amy too. I just find it too
coincidental. Chasing Amy has a butt-load of themes that make it the most
respectable of Kevin Smith's films, but the idea of Holden in love with a
girl who turns out to be a lesbian sounds almost exactly like Rivers and the
girl with the pink triangle on her sleeve. I mean, shit, Kev had weezer on
his soundtrack for Mallrats, then he just happens to have a movie come out
with this theme in it a year after Pinkerton is released? I call that
reason for suspicion. By the way,... the easter bunny... he really IS
just a man in a suit.
