There won't be much of a summer vacation in store for rock satirists Ween —
the duo are booked solid, juggling work on their next album with a side-project
LP and a barrage of television and film gigs, including a stint playing a polka
band in a film directed by a "Sopranos" cast member.
But the Pennsylvania pair have it covered and will even find time to stage a
short tour in August. The outing kicks off August 17-18 in Alaska and then
spends two weeks on the West Coast, ending Labor Day weekend in Seattle at the
Bumbershoot festival, according to Ween manager Greg Frey.
Dean Ween (born Mickey Melchiondo) and Gene Ween (born Aaron Freeman) are
demoing material in their home studio for the follow-up to last year's White
Pepper. Though they've not yet decided where they'll record or who will produce
the effort, the album should be out early next year.
The Weens are also working on the second Z-Rock Hawaii album with their Z-Rock
partners Eye Yamatsuka and Yoshimi of the Japanese noise-rock band the
Boredoms. Z-Rock Hawaii's eponymous 1996 debut included the songs "Chuggin',"
"God in My Bed" and "Sunset Over Osaka." The new effort, produced by longtime
Ween collaborator Andrew Weiss, is expected out by year's end and will be
available through ween.com.
Meanwhile, Ween are beefing up the film and TV section of their résumé.
The prolific twosome have signed on to appear as a polka band in an upcoming
movie directed by "Sopranos" actor Joe Pantoliano, Frey said. They plan to
perform "Who Stole the Kishka" in the flick.
Dean and Gene, who write the music for Fox's comedy series "Grounded for Life,"
are also collaborating with the Vandals on an original song for the movie "Run,
Ronnie, Run! The Ronnie Dobbs Story." The Weens just finished covering the
Atlanta Rhythm Section's "Champagne Jam" for the film, which is based on the
Ronnie Dobbs character from HBO's "Mr. Show."
A remastered version of Ween's first album, GodWeenSatan — The Oneness is due
August 1. The limited edition, issued through Restless Records, will include
three previously unreleased bonus tracks, "Hippie Smell," "Stacy" and "Bumble
Bee Part 2," as well as new liner notes.
"You will definitely notice the difference in sound quality as the previously
available pressing always sounded like sh-- compared to the original stereo
mix," Dean Ween wrote on ween.com. He added that he and Gene are looking into
releasing their entire back catalog on vinyl.
"This is good news for those of you who have paid out the ass to buy the vinyl
on eBay," he wrote.

"Thought that my home was my castle
With noone scrutinizing me
no pigs, no lying bitch no hassle
Y'all are brutalizing me
Can't a man not drink his beer in silence?
Can't a man not crudely lie and scream?
Can't a man not control his bitch with violence?
Y'all are brutalizing me
y'all... are brutalizing me"

Gene and Dean... the Weens... I guess it makes sense if you look at 'em like
a family! :)
Jeff
One small correction on this - they didn't collaborate with the Vandals (whoever
they are). It's very, very important that no-one thinks ween had anything to do
with the movie theme song. But they did take the Vandals tracks and add some stuff
(I guess the movie people weren't happy with how it sounded - rightfully so!)

Why, does it suck? That'd be a shame, because that Ronnie Dobbs musical
episode on Mr Show was awesome! Maybe Cross and Odenkirk should've written
their own music! With Ween's help maybe...

No shit, Mr Show fucking rock, and I can't wait for their movie.
Upright Citizens Brigade have just finished a script for a movie actually,
they're shopping it around now. Walsh and Roberts from UCB are now filming
a movie they wrote together...
