Sonic Youth

I went to see Sonic Youth in NYC last night. I always love their shows but last
night they sucked! Usually they just shut up and play that sound that could be
an entrance for the messiah and I love it but last night they just kept singing
songs about being rock stars. The light show was great with live footage of NYC
streets in the backround. A great idea, cause anything could have been caught
on tape, like a drug deal or a murder or a dog taking a piss. If you want to
make music in the moment, NYC is a great backdrop for the set. Yet, they came
out like they were dressed by a wardrobe artist and gave a lalapalooza
performance. They did reach that sound only they can produce for a moment but
that was it! Maybe this is how their shows really are but every time I've seen
them its been a sonic (instrumental) chaos for an hour and I liked it. Oh yeah,
Axl Rose was in the house last night! Woo Hoo! I hate rock stars.

Yeah, I saw sonic youth last week in minneapolis, and it wasn't really that
great. I really wasn't impressed...it was my first time seeing them and I was
fairly excited, getting to see one of my favorite bands, but really, lee was
the only thing that kept me interested in their performance. I must say that I
was more impressed with sterolab. they put on a great show...

Didn't they have some of their specially modified instruments
that make those Sonic sounds stolen a while back? Maybe that's
the reason. I saw 'em way back in '89 (I think) with Nirvana
supporting in a pub called The Princess Charlotte in Leicester,
England. They nearly blew my fucking ears off.

I saw them back in 95 opening for REM at the Colliseum in Portland (free
tix). they were much better than REM. I think I was the only person
there who was into it (mostly a bunch of old hippies were there). My
roommate saw them at the Gorge the day before (I think) and concurs.
Anyone else been to the Gorge? I just saw the Chili Peppers there a few
weeks ago (free tix and ride from Eugene). I personally thought the Foo
Fighters were better than RCHP. Regardless, the Gorge is fucking
awesome!!!

I just saw Sonic Youth last night and Stereolab was definitely better. They
were basically the reason I went too. I didn't know how they sounded live, but
they are really good. The girls were shy though.
