ummmm
if you didn't see the interview in there here it is:

Ween
Dean
Q: How did the Southpark creators video for "Even If You Don't" come about?
A: I think its the forth time we've worked together but its always us
working on their projects. They got in touch with us in the first season's
of Southpark to do music for a movie they'd done called "Orgasmo", it was a
non animated movie. Matt Stone called me and said "Were huge Ween fans, we
have this movie". I'd seen South Park and really enjoyed it, so we did that
and we became good friend with them really quickly. There's a huge mutual
respect between the four of us.

We just started to hang out with them whenever we were on the west coast, we
actually had our characters on Southpark with us on the voice overs and then
we did "Chef Aid" the album.

When it came to doing the video we naturally thought of them. It was a good
opportunity for them as well because they'd never done a music video. It was
very casual because there were no managers or go between's, it was just
friends calling each other.

Television in general sucks, everywhere. I just don't understand most of it.
I wouldn't take these as typical example of American comedies but Friends
and Frasier are terrible, I prefer the old British comedies like Benny Hill
and Monty Python.

Q: Was it a conscious decision to make "White Pepper" such a commercial
record?
A: To call it commercial is kind of weird but I know what people are saying.
Its definitely a more melodic record and its more user friendly than say our
last couple of records. To call it commercial is to insinuate that it has a
chance of success in the mainstream but I don't think that Ween ever really
stands a chance. We haven't got delusions that were going to sell millions
of records ever, but its not something were trying to prevent.

When we make a record we just choose the best of what we've got at the time.
There was some really abrasive stuff but to us it just wasn't as
interesting, we were just trying to challenge ourselves musically at the end
of the day.

Q: Which type of artists do the respect more? Changing artists like David
Bowie or The Rolling Stones style.
A: Its funny because to have any longectivity you have to keep changing and
take risks. We've been together now as a band for 15 years and making
records for 10 and if we didn't keep changing it would get totally fucking
boring. The artist we respect are like Neil Young and Prince who do keep
changing all the time.

Sometimes there's a penalty for doing something like that because people can
get quite critical. But when they look back in retrospect hopefully people
will respect it. The people who I do respect are the people who have managed
to sustain a career and not just make one popular record.

Q: What do you prefer, playing live or working in the studio?
A: Its changed over the years but I think recently the preferable one is
making records, Its one of our strong points and when you make a record you
know its going to be around forever. The memory of a great concert lasts to
about an hour after a concert when you're sitting there getting drunk, then
its just gone.

In the past we've shied away from extended touring but in the past 3 or 4
years our tours have become really long. We play about 3 hours a night, so
after 6 or 7 months on the road it gets quite destructive.

I don't think were going to do any European festival's again, it just
doesn't suit Ween. We want to play really long shows and when you play 45
minutes between the Deftones and Blink 182, the people just want to see
them.

Q: If you had to do a Tom Jones style collaboration album who would you work
with?
A: I don't know if there is any current American acts. I'd choose Willie
Nelson, Dr Dre, George Clinton, Stevie Wonder.

Britney and Christina don't really bother as much as when Alternative rock
was really popular. I found that really offensive as you have bands with
zero talent having their moment with the terrible music. Pop music doesn't
pretend to be something its not, they don't try to pose as some important
artists.

Amen aren't really breaking in a commercial way over here, there a punk
band. But we love those guys, we were hanging out with them over the
weekend.
