Whether the reunion tour is on or not, this is just sad.

Regardless of whether you're a DLR and/or Hagar fan, I'd guess that we're
all fans of the original VH. With the upcoming RRHOF induction, a reunion
tour should do huge business on the summer circuit. That makes this latest
announcement even more difficult to comprehend.

When the reunion tour was announced, I refused to attend basically because
it was a cash grab, no different than the 04 tour. If they had put out new
music like in 1996, I probably would attend. It would at least prove that
Ed and Dave could work together again in both the studio and on tour. But
even then, they put out two good studio tracks on the GH album before it all
went tits-up again. This latest situation doesn't seem much different, only
missing the new music (which we all want).

Even if this is just a bump in the road and the reunion does happen, I'm
wondering why it takes VH management so long to respond before the negative
rumors hit the rest of the world. Ed and Dave should be doing a simple
press release or TV appearance together, saying everything's hunky dory and
the tour will proceed as scheduled. But nothing yet.

It hurts to see such a talented group of people just destroy a legacy, over
and over again. Not knowing the details, I'd guess Ed has fucked up again.

I could care less for any new music...why ruin a good thing
I haven't liked the production sound Eddie has used on his guitar in
years, let it rest

And I wasn't hoping for the worlds greatest setlist live either, I
know it would be very fan-friendly with people belting out "You really
got me"...Yuk, throw a curve out there and do something unique like
"Outta Love Again" see how many FANS are singing alone

Unfortunately, this story seems to be getting picked up by the mainstream
media and is being treated as something almost laughably pathetic. I've been
hearing on LA news radio station almost hourly about the tour "falling
apart" and the story, at least as reported on that station was full of
insane inaccuracies.

Basically, according the report, the tour which was just announced last week
has fallen apart because Roth was pissed at Eddie's girlfriend who issued
the press release about the reunion and tour before Dave was signed on to do
the tour along with the fact that she doesn't "represent or speak for" Dave.
In addition, Ed's girlfriend was referred to as an "ex-porno star." Most
amusing, was the quickie time line about the comings and goings of Hagar and
Roth through the years leading to "Sammy Hagar found out he was out of the
band in 1998 on the news." Of course, very brief snippets of songs like
"Jump" would be played in the background at key times ("Might as well Jump!"
when it's mentioned Dave quit again).

There's the old saying that any press good *or* bad is good because it
keeps the celebrity out there in people's minds but there's also a line
where bad press can really hurt or kill a career and that's exactly what
this firestorm of inaccurate, negative and unanswered reporting is doing.

There is a very small window of time to at least address all the
conflicting, unflattering reporting surrounding this fiasco and minimize the
damage to the bands' already shaky image if not perhaps even spin it into
something positive. At some point, probably in the next few days or so, the
general public is going to write the band off left with the impression
"Eddie is in rehab" or "Dave quit again because of Eddie's ex-porno
girlfriend" or worse whether that's accurate or not. That's what's going to
stick in people's minds if these clowns ever tour together or apart any time
in the future form here on in.

Even the pr machine working around downward spiraling Brittney Spears is
managing to get sympathy for the bitch from the media. It's being reported
late night show comedians refuse to poke fun of her because of her "sad"
situation. A fucking press release that honestly addresses whatever the
problem is and gives some indication that it's either eventually going to be
resolved or even that it's a dead deal would help the band at this point.
Waiting until either things get sorted out or even until the RnRHoF ceremony
for the other shoe to drop is too little, too late no matter what the
problems behind the tour are right now.

Most people know Eddie's a burnout nowadays. That photo from last year from
whatever the award show Eddie took that flower shop chick where Eddie looks
like a cross between a hobo and the Lord of the Rings troll is burned into
the collective conciousness of anyone who knows who Eddie Van Halen is.
Saying Eddie is in rehab couldn't possibly hurt his or the band's image any
further than it's been shit upon already. Spun properly, it would garner
sympathy for him and if he came through it in one piece and presented
himself as relatively stable, he could actually give the bands perceived
image a big shot in the arm.

Like I said, just ignoring the press while the stories play out and grow
more distorted over the next few days without addressing them in any way is
going to further cement the opinion these guys are all well past done and
make it that much harder to get anyone to promote a significant tour in the
future or land any kind of record deal. If the next thing Eddie wants to
move on to is another 5 years holed up in his house or at best, alone or
with some bastardized version of "Van Halen" playing some shitty clubs,
that's about the best he's gonna get.

I look at Eddie, I see Johnny Thunders.

Yeah, it's sad. :-(

This just in:

It appears Ed had shaved his head and was stopped at the Mexican border
heading for Cabo, bringing with him a trenchcoat and wig, armed with a BB
gun and pepper spray, and wearing a diaper to avoid bathroom breaks on the
arduous drive.

Now watch the VHlinkers pay good money for Frankenshit diapers.

"They look real cool! You actually do save time that way! I tried it!"
