Paul Stanley and Geddy Lee should not be ahead of DLR IMHO.
McQ
For me, this list ain't anywhere near accurate.
McQ
>I see a lot more discrepancies...this list ain't

It's not accurate or inaccurate, it's subjective.
Everybody's list would be different.
My personal list would look a lot different.
Kiss fans think Paul Stanley should be higher, AC/DC fans think Brian
Johnson should be higher, etc., etc.
This just happens to be a national magazine, so it will receive a lot
more exposure than any of our humble lists :)
Hagar ranked higher than Roth gets the collective Rothian panties in a
bunch. They don't even think he merits a spot in the Top 100.
Priceless.
> It's not accurate or inaccurate, it's subjective.
As long as they mentioned that in the article then I'm cool with that.
> This just happens to be a national magazine, so it will receive a lot

Indeed, but I don't put any more faith in it than anyone else's list.
Hit Parader isn't exactly my magazine of choice.
> Hagar ranked higher than Roth gets the collective Rothian panties in a

Ah, so it's a jab at hardcore Roth fans. Well, no worries, I'm sure
they'll either jump down your throat or ignore it completely. There'll
be no in between. While I'm certainly of the opinion that Sam has a
better voice and loved the Hagar era, DLR's VH is the stronger of the
two IMHO. If they're just measuring it by vocal ability (ability to hit
certain notes, how long the singer can sustain a tone and whatnot) then
Hagar should be higher. But then again, to be accurate Freddy Mercury
and Ian GIllian would be higher than Dave AND Sam, too.
> Priceless.
If that's how you get your kicks. Have at it.
McQ
>If that's how you get your kicks. Have at it.
That's why we're here, this isn't "rocket surgery" :)
Don't take these "Best Of" lists so seriously.
They're good topics (in that they often get a good debate going).
The list has been very slow lately.
It's been a good couple months for Hagar. His recent sold-out concert
is shown nationwide (in prime time) and he gets some props in a
national magazine. No big deal.
Actually, youre the one that thinks Hagar shouldnt rank in the top 100,

I'm glad you think so highly of him.
I wouldn't place him in my Top 100.

LOL
Rushie says he is like 45 years old and he still trolls the Vh group trying
to ruffle feathers by saying Hagar sold out St louis.
How sad is that?
Wife is too fat to fuck anymore, Rushie?
Prospects of a sold out Roth reunion tour too much for Rushie to handle?
FULL PANIC MODE hitting hard right now?
What gives?
Is your life really this sad?
LMFAO
Priceless!
You would actually need someone to tell you that??
That goes without saying.

Sorry, but neither, Rushie is nothing but someone to laugh at and to pity.
Picture a 45 yo sitting at his computer all day searching the net for Hagar
news - a guy he says isnt even in his top 100 musicians, just to get
attention on an abandoned VH newsgroup.
Between this and busting a nut to Paris Hiltons pussy pics, this is as good
as it gets for Rushie these days.
Imagine Rushies world if the Roth reunion does happen??
LOL
I can't say it's why I'm here. I like to talk about VH, not taunt
people with this crap. But if that's your thing, have at it.

I remember posting that.
Of course, you remember it as well. I was responding to *your* post
(back when you still posted under "Chuck"). Impressive, that was over 2
years ago. Do my words keep you up at night?

I still stand by it.
If I was ranking my Top 100 "God's Gift To Music", Hagar wouldn't make
the cut.

Really. Everyone knows that Ray Davies is the number one Heavy Metal
vocalist of all time.
Especially when he sings about dragons and swords and stuff.

This list is an opinion. There's no list that would be accurate to
everyone.

lab~rat >:-)
Do you want polite or do you want sincere?
>Queen isn't heavy metal.
The list is quite inclusive. Metal is definitely represented, heavily
(pun intended). But there are a lot of Hard Rock (and even just Rock)
singers included as well.
A lot of people wouldn't even include VH as heavy metal.
Back in the 70's, Montrose (Hagar's first band) was actually considered
Heavy Metal. By today's standards, I don't think anyone would classify
them as such.
>This list is an opinion. There's no list that would

Amen, brother.

That is the thread that Poodlers hang on by: "Roth is not better than
Hagar! It's just an opinion!!"
The fact is, some singers are better than others. Anyone who tells me
that William Hung is a better singer than Lucianno Pavarotti is full of
shit. Their opinion is not as legitimate as mine.
Likewise, anyone who tells me that Sammy Hagar is a better singer than
David Lee Roth is also full of shit. Hagar's voice is high, nasally,
and shrill. Having listened to various bootlegs from 1986 and up, I
can honestly say that Hagar is not any better at singing live than Roth
was.
How are either compared to Pavarotti?
Not to mention, this list is presumably called Heavy Metal's All Time
TOP 100 Vocalists
Now I don't know about you, but I don't necessarily associate the word
"TOP" with "most technically proficient". If you were to issue a long
list of parameters to gauge the singers and include that as a part of
the listing, you'd have something closer to a scientific opinion. But
regardless, it would still be an opinion.
And in my opinion, Hung is TOPS over Pavarotti because he entertained
me more, so there...
Who in the right mind would be entertained by Hagar more than Roth?
Let's see... Romeo Delight or Love Walks In? Roth comes out on top, no
contest.

I dunno. If I saw the show where Sammy slipped on stage, fell on his ass and
cracked his tailbone resulting in a bloody streak down his ass and then he
had to actually sit his ass in a bucket of ice while singing the rest of the
show, I think I'd be far more entertained by that then anything I've ever
heard or seen Roth do, even smacking himself with his stick during his tai
bo (or whatever the hell it's called) routine.

Temper, temper.
LOL
I saw Hagar several times pre VH and VH with Roth in 82. One of the
Hagar shows I saw was better than the VH show.
That said, I don't care much for VH with Hagar.

Schadenfreude doesn't count, LOL. Even then, I don't know if I could
tolerate a complete Van Hagar show.

He'd be a lot higher on my list as well.
Have you read his autobiography?
Pretty good read.
He used to refer to Blackmore as the "guitar player".
Sound familiar :)

Sure did.
Roth actually had to cancel the rest of his tour.
There are all kinds of verifiable links and sources to prove it.
He was a nationwide laughingstock.

David Lee Roth was forced to cancel the last seven dates of his
American tour after injuring himself during a performance in

I I'm exaggerated a bit but one of the guys who used to be on one of the old
versions of the Van Halen mailing list mentioned one time he saw the first
show of the '88 Monsters of Rock tour and midway through the set while Hagar
was running down a ramp, he slipped, fell back on his ass and cut his ass or
tailbone resulting in a big bloody stain through his pants down his leg
which later required stitches.
And from what I heard, Sammy did in fact have to sit (backstage) in a large
bucket of ice in-between long song breaks during the other members' solo
spots. I imagine if he was wearin g those gay yellow polkadotted stretch
pants he usually wore that tour, that big red streak down his ass and legs
musta looked pretty funny.

LOL. That's hilarious
If Perry is on, then how do you leave off Brad Delp of Boston. This
list is dead to me. Perry is in the top 5 easily. Steven Tyler makes
me yak!
If you are going to put Steve Perry on this list, he can't be below #5.
That's just stupid. List is now dead to me.
Although I certainly wouldn't consider Steve Perry to be a "Heavy Metal"
vocalist, I would consider him to be amongst the greatest male vocalists in
the history of the music business. Whether you ever liked Journey's music or
not, it's a fact that Mr. Perry could sing extremely well. I know of no
other male vocalist that I have heard people say as many complimentary
things about in regards to their singing skills. Lots and lots of people
say, "The guy that used to sing for Journey had an amazing voice!!! I just
loved to hear him sing."
Agreed. I would never put him on a 'Heavy Metal' list, but he's one
of the best Rock vocalists ever. Period.
only 2,7,8 and 10 are "metal" in the normal vernacular. and i'd bet most
metal-heads would rate dio #1, on pure vocal talent.

Again, this is such a stupid list. Ann Wilson? metal singer? Hardly.
Even though she is an awsome vocalist. Where's Doug Pinnick of King's

Your best Rock vocalist list is simply this:
1. Steve Perry
2. Robert Plant
3. Doug Pinnick
4. Brad Delp
5. Chris Cornell
6. Jimi
7. David Coverdale
8. Brad Delp
9. Ozzy

T.B.
>Again, this is such a stupid list.
Without defending the list too much (there are some puzzlers), the vast
majority on the list would at least have to be classified as "heavy" or
"hard rock" (many are even indeed "heavy metal").
I'm old school and my definition of "heavy metal" is very narrow minded
and stuck in the late 70's and 80's (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest,
Metallica, etc.).
The term is probably a bit more expansive these days and includes many
newer bands that I'm not very familiar with (or care for very much).
Their place on any given subjective list is not a problem for me
(although they wouldn't make my list). I guess time moves on and things
change. Music I used to think of as "heavy" years ago, ain't considered
so heavy anymore.
>Ann Wilson? metal singer?
I don't have a problem with calling her "Heavy Metal".
At least the description is half right :)
p.s. Ann used to be a hot little number back in the day.

yes, but the higher ranges are the girly ranges. i mean, why not just

I don't think singing high is the actual problem. The problem is when
the voices have no balls. For instance, Geddy Lee and Bruce Dickinson
can probably hit the same notes. But when Dickinson does it, you can
still tell that it's a guy singing. With Lee, it's the opposite.
good point. dickinson has some bass, some balls, underlying even those
high notes. but guys like lee and perry, and also the singer from Boston
(delp?) don't.
it's just all ballsless trebble.

Ozzy doesn't belong on ANY best singers list (I have all the guys albums sitting behind me, but he's a shit singer), and half of the singers on your list have never released a heavy metal song.
